Forty-Nine

Tony rushed into the med bay, placing Lexi on the bed. He didn't know what to do, how was he meant to help her. She was ghostly pale, and cold to the touch. He looked across to the other side of the room, as Bruce worked on Fury, and Romanoff was strapping Hill down.

'Is she ok?..'.. Wilson asked, coming over, his eyes taking in Lexi.

'She said Connor got to them. She could taste his blood in Fury. She collapsed and I don't know what to do...'.. Tony felt lost, how was he supposed to help a freaking vampire.

'I'll call Reyah, she gave me her number, hang on..'.. Wilson pulled out his phone and dial, putting the phone to his ear... 'Rey, you all need to get back here now, it's Lexi..'

Tony took a step back as Rogers and Barnes came over, each standing either side of her, taking one of her hands in theirs.

'Yeah, we have a situation. Connor got to Fury and Hill. We dont-..'.. He stopped, looking past Tony towards the door.

'What did he do?..'.. Tony spun, seeing anger in Nicholas' face as he came to Lexis side.

'She said he got to them, fed them his blood and that they were under his control. She knocked Hill out, but drank Fury. Then she began to throw up, a lot of blood..'... Tony said quickly. He could feel the rage radiating off the three of them.

'We have to stop him Nicholas..'.. Eli stepped towards Fury, checking in him and Hill... 'He won't stop until he has her. We need to do something, now..'

'I want to kill him for this..'.. Reyah hissed out... 'We're all ready to fight..'.. She tells the others... 'They all know its suicide, but for her, we'd all give our lives..'

'Me too..'... Barnes said, no taking his eyes off his girl on the bed. He didn't care if he died, as long as she was safe.

'And me..'... Steve looked over at Bucky, nodding at him... 'She's our girl, I'll do whatever it takes to protect her..'

'Whoa, hold up..'.. Wilson held his hands up, looking around at everyone... 'We don't even know this Connor, or what he looks like. Hell, we don't even know if he has anything else planned. He's one step ahead all the time..'

'I'm in, and Barton..'.. Nat said, after she finished tightening the straps on Hill and walking over to Nicholas... 'Whatever it takes..'.. She turns to Wilson... 'You and Rhodey stay here, on guard over them. Bruce will stay too, just in case the other guy is needed. Tony..'.. She turns to him... 'What about you?..'

'I'm in. She saved me, saved almost all of us. She's been there whenever we needed her. I owe her, so count me in...'... He turned to the three siblings, folding his arms... 'So what's the game plan? What do you need?..'

Lexi groaned at the bright lights above her. She squinted as she pushed herself to sit up, clutching her stomach as it spun.

'Hey, woah take it easy..'.. Lexi frowned and focused on the face in front of her, realising it was Wilson. Looking around, she saw she was in the med bay, Fury and Hill strapped down to beds on the other side.

'They ok?..'.. She asked, her voice croaky, as Wilson handed her some water.

'They're fine. Bruce kept them sedated. Nicholas told him it was the best way for now, until Connor was taken care of..'.. She whipped back to face Wilson, realising the others weren't close by.

'Tell me they didn't go after him..'.. She pushed herself off the bed, dropping the glass, smashing it on the floor. She took a wobbly step forward, gripping him by his shirt... 'Tell me they're still here..'

'Uh..'.. She saw it in his face along with panic. She growled in frustration, spinning and flipping the bed in anger.

'Those stupid, fucking idiots! That's exactly what he wanted! To trap my family, and make me come to him! Damn it!..'.. She ran her hands through her hair, trying to calm down, as Bruce and Rhodes ran in from the office in the corner. She turned to the three of them, her eyes looking between them.

'I need to build my strength up..'.. She sighed... 'How many blood bags are here Banner?'

'Got 3 AB+, that's it. What's going on?'... He looked to the mangled bed on the floor.

'They have walked right into his trap, that's what's wrong. He knew they'd fight for me, so now I have to go save their asses, again! Fucking damn it!..'.. She focused on Banner... 'Get me the blood..'.. He rushed off to do as she asked.

'Will it be enough?..'.. Sam asked her, trying not to panic at the thought of the others getting hurt, or worse.

'No, but it will have to do..'.. She sighed, pacing back and forth.

'Use me again..'.. Sam said, stepping forward, trying to stop her moving about.

'I can't Wilson, you've been with Reyah, and even if you hadn't, the amount I need to face off against him, could kill you..'.. She ran a hand over her face... 'And no to you too Rhodes..'.. She turned to him.

Banner came back over, holding the bags out to her... 'If you're squeamish, don't look..'.. She sunk her teeth into the first one, draining it in seconds, followed by the other two bags. She could feel it coursing through her, and her body hummed from it.

'What are you going to do?..'.. Rhodes watched as she threw the bags in the work station, and wiped her mouth.

'Give myself over. I'm not strong enough to face him, and it's the only way I can guarantee their safety..'.. She wouldn't show her fear, she didn't want them to know how truly scared she was.

'Lex..'.. She held a hand up, cutting Wilson off.

'Don't make me persuade you. Look, you can not tell them that I'm going, as Connor or one of his minions could have anyone's phones. Just tell me where they went, and I'll take it from there. I promise, I'll get them all back..'.. She gave a small smile to each of them.

'Uh, Willowemoc-..'.. Banner said, nervously.

'Of fucking course! Why am I not surprised. Asshole is definitely taunting me..'.. She threw her hands up, knowing exactly where it was, and why he chose there.

'You know where he is?..'.. Rhodes asked frowning.

'Yeah, yeah I know it. Connor knows how important that place is to me..'.. She headed for the door.

'Lex..'.. She turned back... 'You come back too..'.. She nodded at the three of them, and flitted away. It wouldn't take her long to get there, but she would do whatever it took, to save her family. She could feed along the way, but guessed that Connor would have his puppets watching her the whole time.

Stopping outside of the tower, she looked around... 'You can tell him I'm coming. Me for them, fair trade, don't you think...'.. Though there were many people walking past, she knew that one of his little dogs was close by. She smirked, and sped away, knowing exactly where in the forest he would be.
