Fifty-Eight

It had been three years since she made them forget her, three years of heartache and uncertainty, but not once did she waiver on her decision. She had remained in New York, wanting to be close to them all. She made sure that any missions she did, were not with the team, but had requested that Romanoff join her on a few.

Her world qas finally united in peace, and all factions now worked together in harmony. It took a while, but it was worth it. She had officiated so many weddings, attended parties, balls and birthdays across the country. Her council led well, and she couldn't be prouder of them all.

Conrad and Alana had welcomed a child, a half-breed, one who would take their place on the council when it was time. She adored the little girl, Lily and took her role of godmother seriously.

Reyah, Eli and Nicholas had moved to New York too. Reyah now owned her own boutique with Mina and Grace, Eli put is doctoral to good use and was a paediatrician at the local hospital. Nicholas now owned the club with Lexi, and enjoyed being in charge

Lexi had heard of Starks stunt with creating Ultron, and thankfully her and a few others intervened in Sokovia. With the assist from Rose and her brother Levi, they had cast a shield around the core, stopping Ultron from activating it, while Lexi, Nicholas, Eli and Thalia destroyed the bots before they killed many more. She had sent the brothers to heal the people they could, and persuade them to forget, while she remained in the shadows, ripping Ultron to pieces.

Aside from Romanoff, the other Avengers were in shock as they stood watching Ultron in the air, get ripped apart, piece by piece. She wanted nothing more than run to her guys, but knew the world needed them, more than she did.

She sat under her tree, talking to her children, telling them about the battle that happened a few days ago. She missed her little bean, and Hannah so much, and she hoped that she had made Ryan proud of her. She knew her dad and uncle were taking care of her children, where ever they were.

'You did good Lex..'.. She sighed as Romanoff came to sit with her... 'The two of them would be proud of their mom. You helped save a whole city, again..'

'How are the others? The twins settling in ok?..'... She leaned her head on her friends shoulder.

'They're under probation, but I think they'll be a good addition to the team. Tony and Clint are semi retiring, only to be called in dire emergencies. Thor has gone back home, again..'.. Nat sighed, knowing exactly who she wanted to hear about... 'They may not remember you, but they do miss you still. Steve's been throwing himself into training the new recruits with Bucky..'

'What about you? What are you doing?..'.. Lexi asks, staring at the roses.

'Same as Clint and Tony. Its been a lot and I told them I wanted to take some time off for myself. Maybe travel, you know. Would be nice to see the world, when I'm not on a mission..'.. Her words caused Lexi to giggle.

'Let me know where you want to go. I got some places in different countries you can use, plus I can pulls strings. You're on the High council, so you will need some protection..'.. Lexi tells her lifting her head, hearing a car pull up... 'Someone is here..'

She shot to her feet, flitting into the house, towards her front room. She looked out the window and froze, seeing that they were there. She couldn't move, she didn't want to move. Why were they there.

'Lex, what's wrong?..'.. Nat finally caught up to her, looking out the window and seeing the same thing... 'Shit. Ok, Lexi, you go out the back way. I can play this off as my house. Go on, go..'

Lexi still couldn't move as they came up the path to the front door, until she felt arms around her, and then she was gone.

Nat sighed in relief that Eli had come back at that moment, and taken Lexi away. Wiping her face with her hands, Nat took a deep breath, and calmed herself down, before pulling the door open... 'Any reason you two are following me?..'.. She asks them, irritated.

'You've been weird since Sokovia Nat. We know something is going on..'... Steve tells her as Bucky pushes past and into the house, looking around.

'Feel free to come on in, make yourselves at home why don't you..'.. She scoffed out at them... 'You two are acting like serial stalkers, you know that right?..'

She moved down the hallway to the kitchen, pulling out three beers from the fridge. She noticed the blood bags were gone and she was relieved. Hearing the two of them behind her, she closed the fridge, handing them both a drink and heading back to the living room to sit down. She rolled her eyes as they followed her again.

'Do I need to put you two on a leash? You're like needy puppies..'.. She flopped down on one of the couches, sipping her beer... 'Why are you here?..'

'What is this place?..'.. Bucky asks, leaning against the archway, watching her.

'My home away from home. You can take a tour if you want. Just don't mind the sex toys if you find any. I have a habit of leaving them lying around..'.. She waved a hand in the air, with her sarcasm.

'Its a nice place. How long have you had it?..'.. Steve asks as he sits on the other couch.

'10 years. Why are you here?..'.. She rolls her eyes at them.

She watched the two of them exchange a look, and Steve sighed... 'Something feels off about Sokovia, it'd just really strange. How did Ultron, who's made out of the strongest metal on earth, get torn apart with his army? Wanda said it wasn't her, but she felt an unusual power around the core when we were fighting..'

'Ok..'.. Nat kept a blank look on her face... 'So, what's the theory?..'.. She took another sip of her drink, studying the two of them.

'Maybe there was someone else there that had powers, I don't know. You're good at finding things out, but since we've been back, we've barely seen you. You went to that club last night, and we saw you meet a woman there...'.. She knew where Steve was going with this.

'Oh, so stalking is taking a whole new level with you two..'.. She gets to her feet, folding her arms... 'I sleep with you both a couples of times a few years ago and now you want to follow me around? What's next? You want take some pictures? Steal my underwear?..'

She saw the two of the fidget uncomfortably... 'Honestly thought we had an understanding about it. Its was just friends fooling around, blowing off steam. Look..'.. She sighed, running a hand down her braid... 'I said I'm taking time off and I meant it, so if you don't mind, you're ruining vacation time. I've got to go pack..'... She walks to the front door, opening for them.

The two hesitated before heading outside... 'When will you be back?..'.. Bucky asks her as he steps down of her little porch.

'With the way you two are stalking me, twelfth of fucking never..'.. She slammed the door on them, pissed off that they had been following her. She waited, qatching from the small window as they both got in the car and drove off, only then did she let out a little sigh.

The last thing she ever wanted was for the others to find Lexis home and come here, she didn't want her friend to move.

'Thanks red..'.. Nat looked up, seeing Lexi there, her face proof that she had been crying. She walked over and hugged her, nodding at Eli behind.
