Mirabelle Morrison
After yesterday's "double date," as Emily called it when I told her all that happened, things between Terrence and I have been quite awkward at work.
His behaviour from yesterday morning to this morning went from a zero to a hundred. He was grumpy and has been snapping at all the employees, but me. He hasn't looked into my eyes, even when he's giving me tasks to complete.
In the same way, he has tried to limit interaction with me, I have also done the same. Reducing as much contact with him was going to be the best option for either of us. As much as nine years had passed, I was prone to going feral with any form of close contact I had with Terrence.
Last night was enough to show me that I had yet to stabilise my emotions and desires when it came to him. I felt ashamed to admit it to Emily when I realised that I was like a ticking bomb waiting to explode. Terrence was the recipe for my explosion. I felt a bit relieved talking about my unresolved feelings for Terrence to Emily, even if it seemed like it was just my hormones acting up.
When I also talked about David to her, she told me to use him to get Terrence out of my system. It was typical of her to think like that, but I just couldn't. Even if it was going to take months, although part of getting to know him was to forget about Terrence, I was going to take time to get to know David for who he was.
Today, David and I did not have much time to catch up from yesterday because Terrence kept sending him out of the office to work on some legal issues. Since we both were occupied with trying to please the grumpy CEO, we agreed to either meet during lunch or after work.
"Mirabelle?" It was the first time Terrence had called me my first name since morning. He was always aggressively calling my last name.
I looked up to see him standing in front of my desk with his hands on his hips. "Do you need me to get something for you?"
"No," he bit his bottom lip before speaking up again. "I wanted to apologise for yesterday."
I felt my cheeks heat up when I remembered what almost happened last night. Or what I thought would almost happen.
"It's okay..."
"I was a bit drunk from the wine we all had last night and did not have control over my actions. It was wrong of me, especially with you being on a date with...my lawyer," he seemed to hesitate as he cock his head to the side.
"It wasn't a date," I muttered and watched as his face softened in relief for a second before it went back to a blank stare.
He began turning away but stopped midway and faced me again, his hands were stuffed into the pockets of his pant. "I considered your position in this company," he started. Was he going to fire me? He couldn't. I thought I did a good job of sealing the business deal. But then, there were many other people in the company that could the job, even better. "I'm moving you to the business department as the team leader."
"What?" I almost choked out of disbelief.
"I don't have time for a back and forth now, Mirabelle. You were going on about you're not a decoration is in my office yesterday. Now I'm giving you a chance to showcase your skills, you want to complain?" His tone was laced with annoyance.
