Lost in my thoughts, I didn't notice the figure approaching until a familiar voice called out to me. Startled, I turned to see Terrence standing there, his eyes reflecting a look of longing. I couldn't help but feel a surge of warmth at the sight of him standing there, seeking me out in the midst of his company's dinner.
He took gentle steps towards me. "May I have this dance?" he asked, his voice soft and vulnerable.
In that moment, time seemed to stand still, and I found myself caught between the desire to be close to him and the realization that this dance could only deepen the ache in my heart. The conflicting emotions within me surged once again, understanding that he had chosen Eloise. It was a painful realization, but I couldn't deny the longing in his eyes or the vulnerability in his voice.
"I thought you didn't dance," I reechoed the words he had told Eloise. I looked into his eyes, searching for any sign of hesitation or doubt. Yet, all I found was a yearning that mirrored my own.
I didn't realise he had gotten close to me until I felt him slip one arm around my waist, his other hand stretched out, waiting for me to take hold. My heart pounded in my chest as I looked at his outstretched hand.
His eyes sparkled with amusement. "I don't," he muttered, the corner of his lips tilting up.
It was a dangerous proposition, one that could shatter the fragile balance I had been trying to maintain. Yet, a part of me yearned to seize this opportunity, to feel his touch and experience that connection once more.
I found myself intrigued by his contradictory statement as I placed my hand delicately in his, sending a current of electricity seemed to flow between us as our fingers intertwined almost immediately.
A mix of emotions washed over me-desire, longing, and a tinge of guilt. I let him gently guide me to the centre of the balcony, where a soft melody played from the hall, seeping through the open doors.
With each step we took, Terrence's touch sent shivers down my spine, and I couldn't deny the familiar warmth that enveloped me. As we swayed to the rhythm of the music, the world around us faded into a blur, and it was just the two of us in that moment.
His eyes, once filled with uncertainty, now held a raw intensity, and I could see the depth of his emotions reflected in them. It was as if he wanted to convey something to me without words. In the dance, he took control of my body, guiding me with a gentle yet firm touch, leading me through the steps with grace and precision.
Suddenly, he pulled me closer to his body in a gentle embrace as he leaned down to the side of my face. The warmth of his breath against my ear sent waves of pleasure through me. In his arms, I felt safe and desired, like nothing else mattered.
As we twirled and moved in unison, I couldn't help but wonder if he was also aware that our encounter was a secret, a forbidden indulgence that would carry repercussions if discovered.
His admission that he didn't dance, paired with the mischievous smile playing on his lips and how we were moving to this slow song, piqued my curiosity further.
Just yesterday, he and Eloise announced their engagement to a multitude of people. But here I was, being swayed in his arms in a secluded part of the hotel, shielding us from prying eyes and the potential gossip that could follow.
What game was he trying to play with me? Was I just a pawn in his game? Was it simply a momentary lapse in judgment, a temporary escape from the commitments he had just announced to the world where he saw me as a temporary distraction just like Eloise had said, or was there something more genuine hidden behind his actions?
