CHAPTER 22- THE MONSTER
"I saw how he killed Zeenarah," Venice said, swallowing hard. Fear was evident in her voice. "And how he pushed Detective Lesia down the stairs."
Did he push me? I doubt it. Just keep lying to us, witch.
"If you witnessed the crime that night, why didn't you immediately call the police?" Lovynn asked.
"What could the police do about it? You're making me laugh, Detective Lovynnia," Venice retorted sarcastically but with a smile.
"Is my question too amusing, babe? Because if I were you, I'd have run away and called the police to save those victims, at least."
"How could you just watch the killer commit his heinous crime and let him abduct you?" I added.
Confusion flickered in her eyes. Lovynn was right. This woman was hiding or protecting something.
Or perhaps someone.
"Are you implying that I tolerated the killer? Listen here, detectives. I'm also a victim, so don't you need to find out how that psychopath kidnapped me?" Venice protested.
"Then tell us how. Didn't you say you can't remember because of the drug injected into your system?" Lovynn reminded her.
"I only said that to protect myself. I was afraid the killer might come back if I talked about what happened that night. But now that you suspect me, I have to speak. I'm no longer afraid of dying or being killed by that killer," Venice declared.
"Speak," I said firmly.
"Ang totoo ay tumawag ako sa SH Station ng gabing iyon pero walang sumasagot. Nahuli ako ng killer at nagising na lang ako nasa isang madilim na lugar na. Buong akala ko ay hindi na ako mabubuhay pa. Thanks to Ate Leaffe for finding me."
Pinigilan ko namang matawa ng sarkastiko. Imposibleng hindi nito alam na isa ako sa kasama ni Leaffe ng hapong natagpuan namin siya sa underground ng SAO Building.
Pinagmasdan ko ang mukha nito. Naging malikot ang kaniyang mga mata at napakagat sa pang-ibabang labi na para bang may nasabi na hindi dapat.
"Thank you for your cooperation," pagtatapos ko sa usapan namin.
Ang layunin ng usapang ito ay hindi para malaman ang katotohanan galing sa bibig mismo ng babae kundi para makumpirma ang kasinungalingang kaniyang sinasabi.
Tahimik na lumabas kami sa hospital room at dumiretso ng elevator. Saglit muna kaming natahimik ni Lovynn para magnilay.
"She is no longer a victim but an accomplice," declared Lovynn shortly after.
"Yeah, then add her to the list. She's of no more use to us. Let's abandon her as well," I said flatly.
Nang tuluyan kaming makalabas ng LC Hospital ay namataan din namin si Detective Marie na naghihintay sa amin habang nakasandal sa sasakyan.
"I got the CCTV footage since Venice was admitted here," she informed me as she handed me a flash drive.
"Thank you," tipid kong sagot.
Pumanhik na kami sa sasakyan at bumalik ng SH station. Pinauna ko na si Detective Ace sa loob dahil may sadya pa ako kay Lovynn.
"What is it?" agad na tanong nito.
"Nakuha mo na ba ang personal information ng A-list guests?"
"Hindi pa dahil kahapon ay may tatlo pang kulang. Daanan ko ngayon kung gusto mo."
"Kunin mo at huwag mong ipaalam kina Detective Ace at Veins."
"Bakit?"
"Basta."
