Chapter 14: The Heart Of the Mountains

It was a lovely morning for Mondstadt. No rain, no abyss mages, no troubles, no nothing. It was a peaceful morning. At least that's what the trio thought. When three of them were walking in the city they could hear everyone whispering to each other.

Some whispers were about them and some whispers were about something else Kuni and Heizou couldn't hear. Luckily though, Kazuha has a good ear and can hear whispers clearly.

And the look on his face doesn't exactly bring relief to Kuni and Heizou. In fact, it worried them even more. All three of them sat down at good hunters and Sara brought them the usuals. "2 sweet madames and 1 fisherman toast... Is there anything else you would like to order?" Asked Sara. "Oh, 1 tea please, the usual amount of sugar." Kuni said.

Sara wrote it down on here small book. "1... Tea..... Three table spoon sugar." Sara nodded and excuses herself to prepare their food. "You're going to get a sugar rush if this continues Kuni" Heizou started. Kuni turned to him "what continues?" He asked confused.

"The tea, duh. One small cup of tea with 3 table spoon of sugar? I would pass out in just 1 sip." Heizou said. Kuni rolled his eyes. "That just means you're weak" he snarled. Heizou glared and scoffed. Kazuha stayed quiet the whole time. Usually he would interrupt just to get yelled at but this time he looked deep in thought.

Kuni and Heizou looked at each other, both concerned for their dear friend. "Kazuha" Kuni called. No response. "Zuha?" Heizou's turn to call. No response again.

Kuni went and shook him lightly. That certainly worked as Kazuha jolted his head and looked around. "Huh..? What...?" He asked. Heizou sighed. "What's going on with you today Zuha, hm? You're not yourself" he asked in concern. "Oh.. it's nothing" he said.

"You wouldn't spaced out if it was nothing" Kuni crosses his arm. "Well... There is something bothering me... Though it's better if we talk at my or Kuni's domain." He said. "It's settled then, we'll talk at Kuni's doma-" Heizou was interrupted "no" Kuni said.

Heizou had a blank face for a few seconds. "It's settled then, we'll talk at Zuha's domain" he said with a sweat drop down his face. Kazuha chuckled. Their order came and they started to eat. Heizou bit into his toast and chew loudly. Kuni looked at him with disgust.

"Can't you at least close your mouth while chewing? You have no manners at all!" Kuni grumbled. Heizou grinned and continues to chew loudly, mostly to annoy Kuni probably. Kazuha ate his sweet madame slowly. Slower then Kuni which was weird considering how Kuni was always the last one to finish eating.

Kuni was halfway done with his food while Kazuha's food looked like it's untouched. Heizou's food was long gone. "I'm still hungryyyy" Heizou whined. Kuni rolled his eyes before sliding over his plate to Heizou. Heizou's eyes lit up and started eating the food in front of him.

Kuni looked at Kazuha. "Your silence is worrying me Kazuha. What is going on?" Kuni asked. Kazuha gave him a small smile and shook his head. "I'll tell you later" he said. Kuni just gave a small nod. Heizou has once again finished his food and played back on the chair. Kuni was sipping his tea while looking at Heizou with furrowed eyebrows.

"You are so disgusting. If anyone were to see this they would surely call you a pig. You know I heard from Childe that there is a harbinger that take humans as guinea pigs" Kuni said. Heizou stuck out his tongue. "Boo! You never let me have my fun!"

Kuni rolled his eyes and zap heizou a little. Heizou shrieked. Kazuha stood up. Kuni and Heizou looked at him. "Let's go I'm done eating." He said. Kuni blinked. "Eh? But you only took a bite!" Kazuha looked at the both of them. "It's fine, I want to eat back at my domain."

Heizou sighed. "Alright then, we'll ask Sara to pack it up." He went to call Sara. Kuni eyed him worriedly. Are you sure you're ok?" Kazuha nodded. Heizou came back with a plastic bag. "Let's go" he said before he started walking.

The walk there was chaotic with Heizou and Kuni's bickering and Kazuha not interfering. "For the last time, I'm not pregnant!" Kuni yelled. "Who knows? Mood swings is one of the effects of pregnancy you know?" Heizou shrugged.

"I always have mood swings!" Kuni tried to zap him again. Only this time Heizou dodged it. They bicker and bicker until they arrive at a domain they rarely go to. Kazuha's domain. Kazuha enter it and soon so did them.

Kazuha sat at the stone table and signaled them to do so too. Once the sat down. Kazuha started talking. "Kuni, do you remember the important task that was given to us by Master?" Kuni nodded. "Apparently some members of the adventures guild has went up to Dragonspine."

"And?" Kuni asked, impatient. Heizou looked at the both of them. "All of them has said to have felt a shaking at Dragonspine. The shaking was so bad 3 adventures lost their lives." He said with a serious tone. Kuni put his hand on top of his mouth. "Oh my..."

Kazuha nodded. "An unknown thing has been happening there and we have been completely oblivious." Kuni stood up "we need to go check immediately!" He said leaving the domain. Heizou ran after him. Kazuha stood up and walk to the door.

They were fastly walking. Heizou is trying to get answers on what is going on. "What's happening? Where are we going?" He asked "To the most dangerous place in all of Mondstadt, Dragonspine" Kazuha answered before he started to run.

They soon arrived and started walking to what they think could be the cause of this earthquake. The heart of the mountains, Durin's heart. They walk down the crimson red cave underground. Heizou clung onto Kuni's arm. When they arrived, they started to inspect the sealed heart.

Sure enough, he could feel the heart shaking. So this heart is the cause of all these quakes. "It seems that the seal won't last much longer if it won't be replaced with a new one" Kuni said. He activated his elemental skill "I'll go inform Master this instance!" Was all he said before flying out of the cave to get Barbatos.

"What would happen if the seal wasn't renew?" Heizou asked. Kazuha turned to him. "Mondstadt will be destroyed and everyone in Mondstadt will be in danger. It's better we be safe than sorry" he said. Then they hear a foot landing behind them. There stood an anxious Barbatos and a still floating Kuni.

"I came here as fast as I could." Barbatos walk over to the heart. He put a hand over it and started to speak some other worldly language. No idea what it was but the could see a new and bigger seal forming on to the heart. Barbatos stopped. And took his hand back.

He stepped back and let out a sigh of relief. "The new seal has been placed successfully. If you hadn't informed me earlier I'm sure Mondstadt would be in crumbles." He patted the three of them.

"I must get going now, I have some matters to attend to." He said before taking flight once again. "Let's get out of this place! It gives me the creeps!" Heizou whined. "For the first time, I have to agree with you" Kuni said before he started walking.

Heizou ran after him wanting to leave as soon as possible. Kazuha looked back to the heart and then started to run up to his friends. When he spotted them, they were running from hilichurls. Well, not exactly running, more like Heizou was screaming and Kuni is kicking the hilichurls.

Kazuha laughed at them from afar. When they heard that laugh they ran to him and started running back to the main entrance of Dragonspine. Heizou was panting "never.. again!" Kuni started walking. "Let's head back, I want to rest" Heizou grabbed Kazuha arm and started walking.

They arrived at Kuni's domain and walked up the path. They decided to have a slumber party. The swam down the pond and walk into different room before going out and entering the last room. That night was one of the most fun night they have spent together.

However there was still a disturbing worry in all of their hearts. What was it? How do you make it go away? The didn't know. But what they did know is that this worry will be gone soon.

Deep inside the mountains shows the heart of the fallen dragon, Durin. The seal was far stronger then the last. However, it wasn't strong enough. Slowly, a crack was crept out and onto the seal.
