Chapter 31: The Thunder Empress

Kuni couldn't believe his eyes. What was she doing here? How dare she come here. Did Barbatos invite her?

"There you are. I've been searching for you." The woman said and approached him. He took a step back.

"No! Don't you come near me!" He glared at his creator. His mother.

Ei stopped in her tracks. Her own creation hated her. She can't blame him.

"Kunikuzushi, was it?" She asked, putting her hands together. Kuni gritted his teeth. How dare she speak his name. She doesn't even have the rights to be here!

"Why are you here? To destroy me for good this time?!" He accused the archon and step back.

"My dear, I simply wish to-"

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" Kuni turned around and ran out of the Anemo archon's office.

"Kuni!" Heizou and Kazuha both shouted at the same time. But the puppet had run out of the building.

Kuni bolted out of the building and activated his elemental skill and flew out of the city at fast speed.

He had wanted his mother to accept him, yes. But now that she's here, he doesn't know how to face her.

He didn't even realise the tears streaming down his face. He flew away from the city, from the lands, all across the ocean until he reached a nameless island.

He landed ever so gracefully on the sand and sat down, trying to calm his breath.

He covered his face into his palm and groaned into it. "How pathetic..."

"Master! Should we go after him?" Kazuha turned to Barbatos, concern plastered on his face.

Barbatos shook his head. "No, let him calm down and give him some space. He needs it."

Beelzebul sat down on the chair again with a defeated look. Her own son hates her. Poor boy...

Barbatos turned to Beelzebul."see, Beelzebul. You caused that boy to grow resentment of you. I'll never forgive myself if I let you hurt Kunikuzushi again."

Beelzebul gritted her teeth and gave the other archon a glare. "Shut it bard. Hurting him wasn't my intention. I told you that already."

"You left him on the fifth day of his creation. And then you purposely left him in a domain with nothing but a single feather. Not a purpose. Not even a name."

"I realised my mistakes, alright?!" Beelzebul snapped at the other archon.

Heizou and Kazuha had left Barbatos's office after Beelzebul started talking. It was a matter for their gods. Not theirs.

"I went to that domain only to see nothing was left in it. My puppet was gone!" Beelzebul clenched her hand into a tight fist.

Barbatos glared at the woman. "Don't you dare call him a puppet! He's just as human as both of us!"

Beelzebul ignored the bard. "And to know that someone else had taken it, it fills me with worry!"

"Huh? Why is it empty?" Ei looked around the domain to find her prototype puppet.

"Where is it?" She started becoming anxious. The puppet wasn't supposed to wake up... Why had it woken up?

Was the seal too weak? Had it broke? Is that why her puppet is nowhere to be found?

No... No.... No no no! The puppet shouldn't wander around! It was too fragile! Too precious!

She left the domain in a hurry and began her search for the puppet.

Truth be told, she had no ill intention for the puppet. She came to take it back and protect it. But it was gone.

Her heart clenched with worry. It might not seem like it, but she does love her puppets.

She was not sure if both of her puppets would get along, but she was sure they'd get to know each other.

But her prototype is gone.

Where could it be? Has someone taken it? The Fatui?!

She stopped nearby a burnt house. Boy, whoever burnt this must have been resentful.

She walked near the house and saw a little doll. Her heart clenched with sadness. So a child died.... Poor little child...

She knelt down and folded her legs under her, putting her hands together and closing them.

'May this poor child find peace in the afterlife. Makoto, if you can hear me... Take care of the child...' She prayed.

Then she opened her eyes and got up, dusting her clothes. There was something that attracted her to this place. Elemental energy. Wind elemental energy.

Barbatos.

Barbatos does have a knack to visit without warnings. She doesn't mind but it would be nice to know if her fellow archons would be visiting.

She could also feel a soft trace of her powers here. There it is. Her puppet.

She glared and turned her body in the direction of Mondstadt.

"Barbatos.." she clenched her fist.

Barbatos took her puppet.

Barbatos took puppet.

Barbatos took.

Barbatos.....

"BARBATOS!"

"How dare you come into my homeland and take my puppet!" Beelzebul glared at the other archon.

Barbatos didn't respond.

"Do you know how worried I was?! To know something as innocent and fragile as Kunikuzushi to wander around without any knowledge of the world?!"

"I was horrified!" She yelled.

Barbatos's eyes softened. So Ei didn't mean any harm.

She just wanted her son safe.

"Ei, it seems I misunderstood you." Barbatos approached her calmly. He sat next to the Electro archon.

"And I apologize." He continued. Ei's eyes turned soft.

"However, I can't make Kunikuzushi go with you. It is entirely up to him whether he forgives you or not." Barbatos said, looking at her with a serious expression.
