You finally hear an answer from the other side of the phone line.

"Jenna, are you still coming?" You start pacing outside the exhibition room. "Everyone's been waiting. I've been waiting. There's only a few hours left."

"Aah, y/n the thing is...I have to-"

"Are you kidding me Jenna?" You interject. "No. No, not today out of all days." Your hand covers your face in disappointment.

"I'm sorry the plan was to come directly after shooting, but the plans had to change." She explains.

"Okay, so will you arrive later at least? Sure there's enough time, right?" Your tone a little hopeful.

"Y/n..." Jenna sighs. "I'm so sorry for doing this, but I don't think I'll make it." You shut your eyes, feeling your hope shatter within seconds. She continues to speak.

"I have to make an appearance at an event. It's expected of me. I can't just up and leave. I really am-"

You immediately kick the floor. "I expected you to be there for me too! This is very important to me Jenna." You let your frustration take over.

"I know-"

"I had a whole surprise for you. But now- Whatever. It doesn't matter anymore. Do what you want." You take the phone away from your ear.

"Y/n." Is all you hear before ending the call. Upset and disappointed, you take a deep breath before going back to your designated display of artworks.

As the hours went by you tried to forget about Jenna, but it was impossible. She tried to call you and send a few texts throughout the night, but you got fed up and switched it off completely.

"Where's Jenna? Running late?" Your mother asks you, resting a hand on your shoulder.

"She's not coming." You say not meeting her eyes. "She's got better things to do." You mumble more to yourself.

"I know you wanted her to be here, I'm sure there's a good reason." She explains. "You know her well, y/n. I'm sure it's not on purpose."

"It's fine mom." You snap. Your mother sighs softly before leaving you with your art. You fake smiles as other parents and people admire your paintings and ask you more about them.

Jenna eventually gave up calling last night. You hope that she understands that you need some space. She hurt you badly and you are not able to speak to her without losing your cool.

"Hey..." You hear a knock on door. You turn to see Jenna. "Your mom let me in."

Your jaw clenches at the sight of her. "Get out."

"Y/n please. Can we talk?" She steps closer to you.

"Don't walk any further. Go home Jenna. I have nothing to say to you."

The moment she touches your shoulder you snap.

"Don't touch me! Don't- You're the last person I want to see right now." You spit. She instantly releases your shoulder.

"Let me explain." She begs.

"What the hell is there to explain?" You jump up to your feet. "You showed me everything I needed to see. You weren't there for me at one of the most important evenings in my life."

"I know, I'm a bad friend. That's no excuse."

"Damn right." You interrupt. "Only important people we considered family were invited and you can imagine how it felt not having the one friend you consider family."
