You wake up this morning with a bunch of messages on your phone and a few missed calls.
You check the time to see that you overslept and that even if you rushed, you wouldn't have enough time to catch the bus.
You decide to open your mother's text first.
Honey, are you safe?
Yes Mom, why?
Haven't you heard that there was an accident this morning? It involved one of the buses you take to college.
You stand in shock.
Are there survivors?
Very few survived, but also injured.
Mom, that could've been me. I overslept this morning.
Sometimes you have to be glad for the delays in life. It could save your very life. I'm so glad to know you're safe. But my heart breaks for those innocent lives.
I'll call you when you have a moment. I love you. x
I love you. X
You get yourself ready to go to college.

The afternoon after a busy day, you finally reach your apartment door. As you begin to put the key in the lock-
"Y/n..." You thought you imagined yourself, but you turned towards the whisper.
You immediately drop your hands to your sides. Abandoning the task of opening your apartment door.
"Jenna?" You managed to say. Your mind immediately takes you back to the last time you saw her.
"You weren't there when I needed you, Jenna. How am I supposed to feel? I felt alone." You feel hot tears threatening to come out.
"You know how busy I can get. I can't talk to you all the time, y/n." Jenna's tone shows irritation.
"I'm not even saying you have to talk every day. I just want to know that when I need you, you'll at least try to be there even if it's over text."
You step closer to her. Your eyes unflinching. "I'm busy too you know, but I'd drop everything if you really needed me. That's what friends do."
"I can't promise that." Jenna responds. "What I'm doing is important. You either take what I offer or that's it."
The silence is so loud you can hear a pin drop. It pains you to say it, but it leaves your mouth before you can even register. "Then I guess that's it.
The sight of Jenna crying brings you back to present day. Your anger, all your disappointment disappears at the sight of her hurting.
"What's wrong?" You ask, your eyebrows frowning. "Why are you crying?"
Jenna runs and immediately embraces you tightly. Her familiar jasmine scent fills your nose.
"I thought I lost you." She whispers, sniffing.
"Lost me? You didn't lose me." You respond still confused. You hug back.
"I-I thought you were in that accident. I can't bare to lose you, y/n."
"You didn't lose me... I'm here." You rub her back. "It's okay. I'm here. Shh. It's okay."
"I thought I would never have the chance to make things right. To see you again, to hug you again." She releases you and you wipe her tears. "I'm sorry y/n... for all the mean things I said. For the fight that was so stupid."
"Jenna, you're already forgiven. Just having you here worried about me, even after our fight. That's true friendship. That's love." You take her hands in yours. "I'm sorry for the part I played in our fight too." You admit.
"I've always cared about you, you know that." Jenna admits, wiping her tears.
"Sometimes I don't always see it, but this, this proves it. And I'm sorry for the fright you got. I don't want you to be scared."
"The silence between us killed me." Jenna admits. "But never getting to see you again would break me beyond repair."
"You didn't think it killed me too, the silence?" You laugh sadly. "There were so many times I wanted to text you."
"Same here." Jenna gives you a sad smile.
"So, can we put this behind us and move on? I missed my friend." You ask Jenna with a smile. You open your arms for her.
"I missed you too." She smiles before giving you another hug.
