You knock on the glass door of the mansion. A male in a black suit and sunglasses opens it.
He allows you in and closes the door behind you.
The security guard stands behind you, voice deep and emotionless. "The boss' instructions."
You turn to see a piece of black material in his callous hand.
You train your face to be neutral, but you couldn't ignore the uneasy feeling in your stomach.
"Fine." You answer half-annoyed.
He puts the blindfold on you and as soon as he's done, he grabs you by the arm and leads you to your friend.
It sounds like you were in an elevator. The two of you stand in silence.
Your old crew knew that this was a crazy move. To get your captured friend back after a planned robbery that failed. But it was a risk you were willing to take. No family gets left behind.
Dane tried to convince you to do one more job even after you left that lifestyle, but you didn't budge. He ended up doing it alone and got caught by the Ortegas. A wealthy mafia family.

The security finally takes off your blindfold. You blink your eyes a couple of times to adjust to being able to see again.
You're in a cell-like room. Dark and cold."Y/n!" Dane exclaims a bit breathy. He's sweaty and a bit drained of colour. "You came."
"Dane." You manage to say. You hated seeing him in this state. Angry that he didn't listen to you and sad that he is suffering the consequence. "What did they do to you?"
You hear heels clicking on the floor until they stop behind you.
"Ah so this is y/n. Your friend here decided to was completely acceptable to steal from my family." A female voice speaks. "Did you think he wouldn't be punished for his crime?"You turn around only to come face-to-face to a young dark-haired female.
You were taken aback as you thought you were meeting a guy.
"What do you want? Money?" You ask. "What?" You want to see her full face, but her eyes are covered by her black sunglasses.
She crosses her arms. "It seems this friend of yours means a lot to you. You'd be willing to do just about anything." She smirks.
"No, y/n. Don't do it!" Dane interjects. One of the security guards punch him in the stomach and he coughs.
You flinch. "Anything." You quickly answer. It hurts you to see Dane get punished any further.
The young lady gives you a once over. "I can let him go, but you'll have to stay in his place. One of you have to pay the price."
You take a deep breath. "Take me." You'd be willing to sacrifice your life for his. He has a family, a wife and a kid on the way.
"So you'll take his place?" The lady laughs.
You nod.
"How easy. Release the other one." She shoos Dane away. "He's no longer needed."
"Y/n! Wait, no!" That was the last words you hear before the door of the cell close with you in it.
*
You've been sitting a while on the hard floor. The cold slowly getting to you.
The door suddenly unlocks and reveals a tall lady in a pencil skirt and glasses, very secretary-like.
"Come with me." She smiles giving you a hand to stand up. "I'll show you where you will be sleeping."
"What do you mean?" You ask, your head tilting.
"We can't have you sleeping uncomfortably." The lady giggles.
You find this weird. Are you dreaming?
"I'm sorry who are you?" You ask as you follow her out.
"I'm Giselle." She smiles. "Personal assistant to Miss Jenna Ortega. Daughter of Mr Ortega."
You shake your head. "I'm sorry, I'm a little confused."
"You'll be staying here right?" Giselle asks. "So this will be your new home. And with a new home comes a new room."
*
"So you're probably wondering why you got the sudden upgrade, right?" Jenna smirks behind her desk with a cigarette in hand. "Well Giselle here, thought it would be better for you, considering the task you'll be doing for me."
"A task. And that is exactly?" You ask.
Jenna blows out smoke. "You'll be my bodyguard."
You laugh. You laugh until you notice neither Jenna or Giselle is laughing along with you.
"Wait what? I didn't sign up for that." You explain feeling a fire build up in your chest. You don't want anything to do with the Ortegas, and the last thing you want to do is to protect her.
"I did a background check on you and you have amazing skills." Giselle explains with a smile. "It would be beneficial to Miss Ortega, considering how many enemies her family has."
"And you would know all about that wouldn't you?" Jenna pushes the bud into her ashtray. You feel like that was more of a threat than anything.
"I guess I have no say in the matter." You admit defeat. "I did agree to stay."
"Good choice." Jenna says sitting upright in her seat.
You notice Giselle giving Jenna a look, but Jenna rolls her eyes quickly.
"So I will be seeing you at dinner." She says.
You blink trying to figure out if she was serious.
"Since when does a prisoner eat with their captor? Are you sick?" You laugh bitterly. "No, I'll pass." You begin to walk towards the door.
"I didn't say you could leave the room." Jenna says sternly.
You turn to meet her eyes, still covered by her sunglasses.
"We're done here aren't we?" You ask. "Why would I want to sit close to a cruel and heartless person?"
"How dare you!" Jenna stands up and bangs her hands on the desk. She leans over the desk, her superiority showing.
"For your unnecessary behaviour, you can starve for all I care! You don't know who you're messing with y/n." Jenna warns. "Know your place and now...get out of my face."
