It's a been a tough few days since your  birthday. You had expectations, no doubt about it.

You always put effort into showing people that you care, that your words match your actions. And then there were others who blantantly showed you how little they cared. You always think it'll change, but it doesn't. It's just the heart that you have.

A few of your friends forgot your birthday, but when it came to other people's birthdays they put the most effort in their wishes.

What's worse is that you mentioned to the same group of friends once or twice that you've always wanted to visit this fancy restaurant with a beautiful view of the ocean, but you just never found yourself there. Then a few days ago, your so-called friends posted pictures of themselves enjoying the restaurant and the view on social media. Never asking if you wanted to go with.

This afternoon, you just came home from classes. Your lecturer was on your case again since your marks have dropped the past months. The cherry on the cake was that it was infront of your entire class. He always reads everyone's mark out loud, but those who did bad, he would not mention your mark only your name. This causes some giggles among your classmates.

Now you are scrolling through social media to check your messages. Nothing, except for groups. Out of boredom you go through people's statuses.

You lock your phone with a sigh. Tired of facing the reality that is your life.

You hear a knock on the door. You get out of bed to open it revealing your friend Jenna with y/f/d*.

"Hey,Jenna." You greet allowing her in and closing the door. "You didn't say you were coming. What's up?"

"I just came over to say hi and bring you that dessert you like." She lifts to show you before placing in the table. "I'm sure we can still celebrate your birthday a few days later. How've you been?" She smiles.

"Okay. I'm alright." You cross your arms. "Yourself?"

"No, y/n..." Jenna shook her head slightly, her eyes not leaving yours. "How are you really? You can't hide from me."

That question alone freezes you in place. A million flashbacks goes through your mind and causes your chest to tighten. You swallow the sadness, feeling the pain of pent up emotion in your throat.

"Uhm, I'm not okay." Your voice cracks trying to find the words. "I'm lying to you. I'm not okay." You whisper, shaking your head. Finally admitting that statement to yourself.

"Y/N..." She coos, pulling you into a tight hug.

Your vision becomes blurry and stings with unshed tears.

All you know is that you were once standing and the next you feel the coldness of the floor. The lump in your throat feels worse trying not to scream out from the pain that can't be seen. You are literally sitting on the floor how low could you possibly go? You thought.

"I got you. I got you. It's alright." Jenna whispers still holding you. "Let it all out."

Tears fall down your face as if no one else was in the room. Your chest feels heavy with every breath.

You cry your heart out while Jenna rubs your back. The two of you sit in silence, only your sniffs could be heard.

"It's all been too heavy. I feel like I give my best and it's not enough. It's never enough!" You cry out wiping your tears.

"Enough for who?" You hear Jenna sniff.

"Everyone in my life. All I give is my love, my time, my kindness." You explain wiping the last of your tears with your hoodie sleeves. "And people always prefer someone else or someone better. They always leave when I need them most."

"I hear you. But-" Jenna lifts your chin with her finger. You notice that her eyes are glossy. "I just want to remind you that if people want less, let them go get it. Don't stop them, don't chase them.'

"It's hard." You say.

"I think it's time you become a little bit of a you pleaser." Jenna smiles slightly. "I'm sure you know your worth. You basically told me what you bring to the table. And I know from your view the table looks empty, but I definitely want to be sitting at yours." She touches your hand. "That is until you don't want me there anymore."

"Are you kidding me?" You smile. "Of course I want you around for as long as life allows."

"I'm glad to hear that." Jenna returns your bright smile. She taps your hand "You good?"

"Yeah, I needed that. Are you good?" You ask Jenna. "Why were you crying?"

"Because when you're hurting, I hurt." Jenna explains. "I just don't want you to feel like you're alone. You're not, okay. You are not."

"I have so much love for you, Jenna." You say with a small smile. You feel so lucky to have a friend like Jenna. Everyone else can go, but as long as she's still around you know you'll be more than fine.

"And I have the most love for you." Jenna stands up and gives you a hand.

"Now I'm in the mood for that dessert you brought."

"Some pleasure after the pain. Coming right up." Jenna winks before opening the bag.

I know we all have our bad days, but do say thank you to those that choose to stick around. Such people are hard to come by.
