You walk onto the field in a row with your team. Your blue uniform feeling unusually tighter on your body.

Your eyes scan the bleachers. Quite a few people are here for just a casual soccer game, you thought.

Your hands feel warm and damp. You didn't think today would be the day that one of your teammates would get sick and cause you to play, instead of sitting the bench like always.

You in a line side by side with your team and watch your captain walk up to the Lightning Strikers' captain.

The referee talks to them and you see his hand points to the opposing team.

Your captain, Tara gestures for you guys to huddle up.

"Okay, guys! You got this and you gonna kill this. Who are we? Y/t/n! Who are we? Y/t/n!"

Your team stands in position. You anticipate the whistle, but you can't deny that you're nervous. This is your first real game in ages.

The whistle goes. And you try to swallow your fear.

You watch and run to follow the ball. After a while it suddenly goes to you, but one of the other team members is heading towards you as well.

You quickly reach out for the ball and swiftly move away before passing the ball to one of your teammates.

You're doing good so far. You try to contain your proud smile.

The game drags on for minutes with no score from either team. You hear different cheers for both teams and at the same time your laboured breathing.

You nearly sprint off to the benches when they call halftime.

After a much needed break, the game continues and this time you feel more comfortable. You managed to tackle, block and kick your way into one goal.

Your teammates elated.

And then the next goal went to Lightning Strikers.

With a few seconds left and one more goal to score, your teammates are even more fired up and you along with them.

The ball suddenly flies in the air towards you and your body moves into the bicycle kick before you can even register what you're doing. This would be the first time you're trying in a game.

You felt your foot kick something but it didn't feel like a ball.

The moment you land on the hard ground, you hear the time out whistle and look up to see...

A bloody hand and red splatters on a white uniform.

"Ah!" You hear the girl cry in pain. "Shit."

You quickly stand up to assist her. You wipe the grass off your already dirty shorts.

"Hey, let me see." You try to take a better look, but she pulls her hand away from you.

"You've done enough!" She spits. "Leave me alone."

"I can help you." You manage to say. The panic rising within you. "I'm so sorry. Let me help you please. I know first aid."
"Please?"

The girl eyes the crowd and our teams. "Fine, let's go to the bathroom." She walks ahead of you and you follow.

"Just sit here while I prep what's needed and wash my hands." You say leaving her in the stall before going to the sink.

The dark-haired girl sits quickly on the toilet seat holding her injured hand.

"This is just want I needed..." You hear her speak under her breath before you enter the stall.

You sit on your knees in front of her. Getting something for her to wipe the worst of the blood.

"You know I didn't mean it right?" You say calmly, noticing the freckles on her face before focusing on the task at hand.

"You cost me my game." She blames.

"It was an accident." You put some antiseptic on a cotton ball. "And the game is really not that serious. It's just for fun. It's a tie anyway."

"Ow!" She shouts in pain. You cringe because it hurts you too knowing that this is all your fault.

"I'm sorry, but it's necessary." You say slowly cleaning the wounds.

"You could at least warn me." She grunted. "You better watch who's around you next time before considering that move."

You start to cut up the bandage for her hand."You know... today was my first day out on the field. I was so nervous, but I knew it was gonna be good and here I am cleaning up an opponents wounds."

You started to wrap the bandage around her hand carefully and securely.

"Yeah well I didn't plan for this either." She responds putting her loose strands of damp hair behind her ear."I can clearly see you're new."

"What does that mean?" You finish and look up at her.

"You're a bit sloppy with your game." She looks at your handiwork. "You have skills, but not the discipline."

"Wow ... That makes me feel so much better. Thanks." You stand up, feeling how tired your body really is. "I didn't expect you to be this...mean.

"Mean? Who's the one bleeding?" The girl shouts, lifting up her hand.

You look at her taken aback by her reaction. The guilt can just swallow you up. This is not what you need right now.

You start to quickly pick up the things you needed for the wound before being stopped with a hand on your arm.

"I'm sorry," You look at her hand and she lets go. "I'm a little frustrated that's all.
I can teach you if you'd like? Some extra skills, hopefully to prevent further injury to others."

You see her smile briefly. You were beginning to think that she never had one.

"We don't even know each other and you want to teach me how to play soccer?"

"I'm Jenna." She gives you her uninjured hand. "And you are?

"Y/n..." You take her hand and shake it.

"Now we're not strangers anymore." She observes her bandages. "Am I done?"

"Yep ... I think you'll survive."

"You haven't answered me..." She teases.

"Oh hmm, I'll think about it." You think this is a joke and don't want to get your hopes up. "Your personality is throwing me off."

Jenna scoffs playfully. "Why don't we go for a milkshake in the mall. My treat. You'll have a proper chance to get to know me."

"What about your teammates?" You ask forgetting all about your team as well.

"They know me already, you don't." She smirks. "What do you say y/n?"

"Okay... I'll accept the milkshake offer." You help her up. "And some fries?"

"You're pushing your luck, Y/n." Jenna laughs. "But let's make it a bit later today."

"Why?" You ask.

"I don't know about you," Jenna whispers. "But I wouldn't serve two people that just played a soccer game in the sun. If you know what I mean."

You laugh immediately catching her drift. "Good idea." You can't help but look at Jenna a little differently. She seems like someone you'd like to get to know.

"Let's get back out, they're probably thinking we're ripping each other's hair out." Jenna laughs heading towards the door.

"Well..." You tease. "But the way you were going on earlier..."

Jenna shakes her head, hiding a smile. "Let's just go."
