The sun filtered through the Mauri, laying on my eyelids. They shuttered as the familiar scent of fruit hit my nose. Squinting my eyes I slowly open them, being met with a still asleep Takara.
After we dropped Iskra off I stayed at Takara's. I love her house, her mums such a beautiful person with a kind would.
Getting up, I carefully stand over Takara, heading out to her kitchen and finding her mum cooking some fruit.
"Hello sweet, did you just wake up?" She smiles at me, picking up some fruit.
"Yea, Takara's still asleep," I nod to her room.
"Would you like something to eat?" She asks, motioning to the fruit.
"Oh no thank you, I should probably head home actually," I smile, giving her a hug goodbye.
"Bye Ka'nu," she waves, turning back to her fruit.
Lovely women
I wasn't actually heading home, well not for the reason you'd think. I was going home to get my spear gear so I could train with the women warriors know as the: luftëtare. They were elite warriors and what I aspire to be one day.
Oh fuck
I'm meant to be Tsahik now. Tshaiks can still be a warriors, right? Ronal is a fierce warrior, but she spends all her time healing hunters instead of being a hunter.
I finally arrived at my Mauri but my feet freeze, just staring at the entrance. I can't bring my self to go in. What if Nans in there and she gets mad at me for avoiding her?
Fuck it
Walking in I hold my head high, going straight to my room, opening my chest and pulling out my hunting top with the spear holder on the back.
Putting the top on I grab my spear off the wall attaching it to my back. Then I grab my knife putting it in the holder built into my top.
"Ka'nu?"
Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck a duck
"Mhm," I mumble, keeping my head down.
"Where have you been?" Nan asks.
"None of your business," I mutter, turning around to walk out of the Mauri.
I expected Ban to stop me, to yell at me, ground me. Instead she just let me walk past, I don't know why but I was a little offended.
I decided it was nothing and speed walked to the place the luftëtare train. I'm excited to train with them again, it's been a while.
The walk isn't far, only a couple minutes and I was walking very fast. Once I finally arrived I couldn't help but smile whilst watching the sparring and training take place.
There were racks on the side filled with weapons, great flat rocks in the middle for sparing and training. The location was on the East side of the island where not many people swim due to it cooler waters from the wind hitting it first.
"Ka'nu," Yuki smiles at me.
Yuki was a fierce women, strong fighter. She introduced me to the luftëtare's a couple years ago, saying I'd make a great asset.
"Haven't seen you in a while," she smiles, shaking my hand.
"What can I say? I'm a popular person," I smirk and she laughs.
"Follow me."
Following behind her I look at all the sparing happening. When you spar with weapons you have to use a 'gako' to cover the sharp part of the spear so no one is hurt.
"Nothings really changed since you were last here," Yuki explains, pointing to everything. "You sparring or practising today?"
"I don't know, I better warm up first," I smile, walking to the rock you can warm up or stretch on.
"Me too, just got here," she smiles back.
We begin stretching and warming up as she tells me all the gossip of the Metkayinas in their twenties. Yuki was twenty three and I'm seventeen, making us some of the youngest luftëtare. Well technically I'm not one yet, but she is.
"Where's Quojo?" I ask.
Quojo is the leader of the luftëtare, she started it. She's sixty eight, the oldest luftëtare as at a certain age your no longer needed to fight.
"She's somewhere," Yuki shrugs. "She's been pretty stressed lately."
"Whatc why?" I ask concerned for her, she's always been kind to me.
"The mashkull have been trying to steal our training area," Yuki scoffs.
The mashkull are the male warriors of our clan, trained separately from the luftëtar for some reason.
"Don't they have their own space," I ponder, stretching my arm over my head.
"Ours is better," she smirks.
"No, no, no! We have trained here for decades!"
My ears pick up as our heads jolt to the side, being met with an angry Quojo walking quickly with the leader of the mashkull hot on her tail.
"It's not fair that you get an amazing place to train and we don't!" The leader yells back.
This had nothing to do with us being female and them being male, they thought it wasn't fair that they had to train in a bad place and the other warriors didn't.
"I don't care this is ours!" Quojo yells, turning around to face him.
I noticed that all the other mashkulls had followed their leader Fügjo staring, in awe at our training grounds.
"Why can't we share?" Fügjo asks.
"There's not enough room!" Quojo scoffs.
Yuki and I hop off our rock, standing with the other luftëtare. We were standing behind Quojo, creating a semi circle; all holding our spears, glaring at the mashkulls who stood behind Fügjo with their spears.
"My fighters are better, we should have the better place!" Fügjo yells.
Dick head
The luftëtare began hissing at him waving our tails as we tapped our spears twice on the ground.
"Your better? Please, we would crush your boys like nuts," Quojo smirks tapping her spear twice on the ground, us following.
"Well then why not prove it?" Fügjo huffs clearly mad.
"Bring it on," Quojo hisses at him.
The mashkulls stick their tongues out banging their chests as they got into fighting pose.
"Not now you skxawngs," Quojo says referring to the mashkulls.
"What do you mean," Fugjo questions, gripping his spear.
"1 fighter each, they battle it out. When we win you stop whining and deal with your place," Quojo proposes.
"Okay, but we pick your fighter; vise versa," Fugjo smirks. "And you won't win."
"Luftëtares!" Quojo yells turning to us. "Are you ready to kick their clumsy butts?"
"Hoorah!" We all yell tapping our spears twice.
"Mashkulls! Don't go easy," Fugjo smirksx staring at Quojo.
"Pick," Quojo moves to the side pointing at us. "Pick who shall beat you."
"Her."
