"oh get over yourself!" a loud voice shouted from the room i was supposed to enter.
"you will not speak to me like that! not only am i the principal of this school but i am your mother, lionel!" the second voice reamed, and my hand flinched back off the doorknob.

what a great start to a new school..
"you can go in." yet another voice said from behind me, and i spun around in confusion. there stood a short girl who looked around my age, holding a pile of books in both her hands. "if you're waiting for the shouting to stop, you'll be there all day."
"oh." i said, because how else am i supposed to respond?

she battered her eyelashes at the anxious state of me, and sighed. "here, let me." my eyes followed her as she strolled towards the door i had previously tried to open, and swung it open unapologetically. my body flinched at the noise it made as it banged against the wall.

"stella!" a familiar voice shouted, and as i peered into the crowded room i identified the voice to be an older woman — whom i assumed to be the principal.
"what? i was simply just introducing the new student." and then she performed jazz hands towards me as i slowly walked into the room.

my eyes darted across all three people in the room, my nerves shooting through the roof. the older lady looked around fifty years old with dark red hair and electrical green eyes. she wore a grey suit and matching grey glasses. her silky hair was tied up into a bun which was pinned up by many individual bobby pins.

next was the girl who had just swung the door open who i now know was called stella. she also had burgundy-coloured hair and the same endearing green eyes as the older woman, which left many speculations in my mind. she was wearing the same uniform i was, except she had a skirt and tights instead of my straight legged trousers.

and finally, i glanced over to the last person in the room who also looked around my age. it was a tall boy with dark red messy hair that was draping down his face, covering his dark green eyes. for some reason, all three people looked quite similar, which only added to my speculations. he too was wearing the same uniform but it looked scruffier; his shirt was untucked, his tie was crumpled and he wasn't wearing suitable school shoes, instead he was wearing black vans. he had a bandage on his left cheek, and it smoothed down his jawline and ended at the top of his neck. i wonder how he got injured in such an odd place...

the voice of the elder lady shook my mind awake and stopped me from making up anymore theories of who these people were.
"hello! sorry for such an introduction on your first day, sweetheart." she said calmly, her tone definitely changed from how it was when she spoke to the other boy.

the red haired woman sat down in her chair, smiling sweetly at me.
"stella, if theres nothing else then you may leave." she egged on, and the girl rolled her eyes before walking out the room, closing the door hastily behind her. "well, you must be our new student then! huntley, isn't it?"
"just hunter is fine." i said quietly, itching the back of my neck.

she nodded, balancing her glasses on the edge of her nose as her eyes scanned some papers on her desk. in the moment of silence, i glanced over to the other boy again. he was standing there with an unamused facial expression as he stared at the tiled floor. my eyes explored his face, and only then did i notice the other bandage on his upper eyebrow, and a faint greenish-browney bruise on his left eye. bloody hell, someone had got this guy good.

he must've caught he staring, and felt some obligation to make a sassy remark, "if you think this is bad, you should see the cost of the other guy's medical bill." my eyes furrowed at him, but before i could respond the elder lady spoke up again.
"shut it, lionel." ah, so his name was lionel.

"well, huntley honey, i have your schedule here." she lifted up a piece of paper, which i then grabbed, and then turned to the boy besides me.
"you're going to give our new student a tour." she said matter-of-factly. lionel's face scrunched at the order.
"like hell i am." he scowled, and i couldn't help but wonder how he got away with talking to the principal like that.

"it wasn't a request." she spoke again. "huntley, this is lionel, my son." ah, well that explains it. "he will give you a quick tour of the school before then going to his own lesson — do you understand lionel?" she said, and then glared at her son with a look of embarrassment on her face.

lionel rolled his eyes pathetically, before turning to me. he snatched the paper out my hand and stalked out the office.
"better go follow him, he walks fast." the principal remarked, and i looked at her like she was crazy before jogging off after lionel.
