the art lesson was quite fun, i enjoyed it. mr ajayi was a really nice guy as cormac had told me. i was seated on my own table and i didn't really talk to many people in the lesson but i didn't mind. after all, that just meant i could focus more on my artwork.in that lesson, we were drawing a shoe of our choice. it was required we'd do the correct shading necessary and by the end of it, mine was bloody gorgeous. i take pride in my artistic skills, in my opinion i'm quite a good drawer.
and then finally, break came around. i instantly made my way to the cafeteria to try find cormac, as he was my closest friend i had made so far. it was pretty easy to find the eating area, i just followed the large crowd and eventually found myself in there.
"hunter!" a familiar voice shouted, but when i turned around, it wasn't cormac. i recognised the girl to be mariana, the girl i had met in my english class.
"hi mari." i smiled to her, and she grinned back at me while faint blush appeared on her face. "what you doing here?"
"me and my friends chill here." she said simply, and i felt kinda stupid for asking now. it was pretty obvious after all. she then pointed behind her to a table full of girls all chatting amongst themselves.i looked across them all and then turned back to marianna. "nice." i said.
"you're welcome to come sit with us, if you'd like." she said, flashing her pearly whites at me. i did debate it for a second, but knew i preferred to sit with cormac.
"thanks marianna, but i already told someone else i'd sit with them." i said awkwardly, but she didn't seem to mind. she gave me a slight nod before saying goodbye and joining her table. i watched after her for awhile before turning to find cormac.my eyes scanned across the room, and then landed on yet another person i recognised. i saw lionel sitting on a table that was surrounded by other tall lads. momentarily, he noticed me too and gave me a certain look. i didn't say or do anything, just returned his glance and then moved on casually. lionel looked at me for a few moments more, i could see him in the corner of my eye but i didn't do anything. eventually, he turned back to his friends and involved himself in the conversation once again.
finally, i set eyes on cormac and his group of friends. i confidently walked over to the table they were chilling at, determined to make a good first impression. when my friend encountered me, he instantly smiled and waved.
"hey hunter!" he said after i had made my way over. "lads, this is hunter the new guy. hunter these are my mates."
"hiya lads." i said, trying to fit in with the words i'd use. for a moment, all his friends shared a suspicious glance, but introduced themselves nonetheless. i counted there to be four other boys, not including cormac and i, and they all seemed pretty chill about me being here.the first guy to speak up was a shorter black haired boy with piercing blue eyes and a silver nose ring. i noticed his hair was practically just a mop on the top of his head. it was all curly and sprouting in different directions, which only added to his good appearance. he had a darker skin tone to me, which only made his eyes pop even more. "yo mate, i'm isaac." i nodded back to him, smiling gently.
i figured isaac was the sort of guy who was the life of the party? i got positive, confident vibes from him. he told me about how he was from jamaica, but moved here when he was eight and gave me a quick rundown on how he was a pretty carefree guy — which i admired.
the next boy was a bit taller, with a more muscular build and he genuinely looked older than the rest of the blokes. with his long black hair that was pinned into a bun at the top of his head, and his sideburns shaved off, he honestly looked quite intimidating. he also, of course, had an eyebrow slit and a piercing to match it. "mickey." he said simply, nodding to me and i watched as a strand of hair flopped out infront of his face. mickey's dark brown orbs stared back at me for a minute before i forced myself to look to someone else. i didn't learn anything else of mickey, he didn't elaborate from his name at all.
another voice spoke, which distracted me from the scary vibes i was getting from mickey, and i turned to glance at yet another dude. bloody hell, why did cormac have to have so many friends? there was no way i was gonna remember all these names..
"i'm nicholas, but please for the love of jesus call me nick." the boy chuckled at me, and i felt at ease again due to his calm presence. he had dirty blonde hair that covered his leafy green eyes slightly, but the first thing i truly noticed about his appearance was the abnormal amount of freckles covering his face. his nose and forehead was completely covered and he had a good few dotted around his cheeks and neck too. also, nick had a pair of cute dimples implanted on his cheeks which made him look like a total pretty boy. instantly, i knew this guy was a very outgoing, friendly person and thank god!
finally, the last guy piped up and i was pleasantly surprised when he shared with me his name. "hello, i'm freddie." he said charmingly, flashing me a wink while he spoke. his name was extremely fitting as when i first laid eyes on this boy he reminded me significantly of freddie mercury. with his big brown hair and sharp eyes, i noticed he too had the same aura and vibe of the famous singer too. "and i'm gay." freddie added, which made my eyes widen. "i like to get it out the way when i meet new people so if they have a problem with it, they can fuck off before we get close."
"understandable." i nodded to him, "but i don't have a problem with it mate, not at all. sorry but you ain't getting rid of me that easily." i joked, and when everyone in the group laughed i felt as though i fit in with these guys pretty well. all of the boys seemed rather friendly, maybe not mickey but i'm sure we'll warm up to each other as time goes on.
"well what are you waiting for man? take a seat!" the boy with the nose ring said to me, patting the seat besides him. i was absolutely racking my brain for his name but fuck... was it ethan? isaac? wait, yeah i'm pretty sure it was isaac.
"bet." i grinned back at him, placing my ass on the bench and suddenly i felt pretty secure in this school now.i often thought making friends was the hardest bit of school, instead of the actual learning. when i was in primary, i realised that was the one thing i really struggled with before the incident. but now that i had made some pretty cool friends, i felt much happier.
