"does this mean i can get your number now?" lionel asked me as we walked side by side back to the school. the bell had recently rung and i knew i had to go to my next class but lionel convinced me to stay a bit longer with him in the forest. now i was sure to be late to class, but i was simply too happy to care.

"i guess." i fake-sighed and he just laughed at my response. digging in his pockets, he eventually pulled out his phone and handed it to me. after added my phone number to his contacts i passed it back to him and he glanced at the name i had given my contact.

"'hunter'? seriously? how basic."
"excuse me! thats my name, prick." i rolled my eyes, and watched as he deleted the contact name i had chosen and then started typing a new one. he tilted the phone screen in my direction so i could read it more clearly.

"huntley isn't much better." i groaned, turning back ahead and opening the door that led us into the hallway.
"don't forget the heart besides it." and when i looked again, i did indeed notice a white heart emoji next to my name. i smiled, looking down at my shoes as we walked.

"what class you got now?" he asked after a moment of calm silence.
"maths." i said in a tone of boredom.
"lucky you." he grinned at my dismay.
"it's not the actual lesson i'm worried about, it's cormac. he's in that lesson with me and i know he'll ask where i've been the last hour. he's used to me sitting with his table all lunch so he'll obvious be curious to where i disappeared off too." i explained, and lionel nodded in understanding.

"what are you gonna say?"
i pondered for a moment, "i'll probably say i was chilling with marianna."
"who's that?" he asked, and the change in his tone didn't go unnoticed. i grinned, he sounded a bit.. bothered?

"why? jealous?" i smirked at him, and he rolled his eyes while flinging an arm over my shoulder protectively.
"maybe, what you gonna do about it?" he asked, looking down at me. i stopped walking and pushed him slowly towards the wall behind us. i took a quick look down the hallways which were thankfully empty, and dived in for a kiss from lionel.

he quite happily returned the kiss, taking his arm off my shoulder and moving his hands to my waist. i dug my hand through his hair again, knowing full well that was his weakness. he yelped again, pulling away with a flustered face.
"you have nothing to be jealous of, but its cute to see." i grinned at him and watched as he rolled his eyes in annoyance.
"shut your mouth."
"make me." i retorted, and he did.

while i was walking out the gate after school, i saw my friend group chilling in their usual spot so i walked over there of course.

"hey lads." i waved to them, and they all said hello.
"hunter! where were you at lunch today man?" nick asked me, and my heart dropped until cormac answered for me.
"he was with marianna, he told me in maths." he said simply, and all the group started going "ooooooh!" at the mention of marianna and i. if only they knew...

"oh shut up, we're just friends." i said with an eyeroll, trying to downplay this situation as much as possible.
"are you sure? is that your desicion or hers? because marianna is HOT!" isaac grinned and i couldn't help but laugh at him.
"then you date her." a laugh came from mickey.
"yes, by all means!" i agreed. "honestly lads me and her are just mates."
"whatever you say hunts." isaac smirked at me, but i just rolled my eyes at the fact he clearly didn't believe me.

"anyone wanna go get burgers?" cormac asked the group. on one of my first days here, cormac took me to a delicious burger house down the road from school; it became pretty normal for us to go there after school.
"i can't." freddie spoke up.
"me neither. my dad wants me home. wanna walk with me freds?" i said, knowing damn well my dad didn't want me home but i wanted to catch freddie alone to talk about things only he knew about.
"sure." freddie shrugged, "see you guys tomorrow."
"yeah, bye guys!" after we all said our goodbyes, freddie and i started walking up my street.

he was the first one to mention it, "so, do you have any updates?"
"i think i'm gay." i said with a deep breath, and freddie smiled at my discovery. i could tell me was proud of me for admitting such a big thing, and i was proud of me too.

"thats great, hunter." he smiled, "any updates with your new boyfriend?"
"he isn't my boyfriend, gosh don't call him that." i laughed "but yeah, he was with me today at lunch. that's where i was."
"but you told us you were with marianna? you lied?" something about freddies tone was different. it was almost as if he was offended, but i thought he understood that i had to be secretive about this.

"well i couldn't exactly out right tell them who i was really with, could i?" the words left my mouth nonchalantly. and freddie didn't seem impressed.
"you should try tell the group, hunter. atleast about you being gay, it's important there isn't any secrets between us. secrets are what drive people apart and i like our friend group how it is i don't want you ruining it." and damn, his words hurt. surely this wouldn't ruin the friendship, was it really that deep?

i knew my friends hated lionel, but surely it wouldn't be too hard to get them to realise that he really wasn't that bad. but then again, i've only been at this school for a few weeks, i have no clue how long this feuds been going on for.
