"and he spat some shit about me needing the extra practice anyways! he's a cocky prick, i'm gonna kill him." mickey vented angrily to our friend group during lunch time. i sat there awkwardly twiddling my fingers knowing i knew what lionel's lips tasted like. i felt like such a betrayer.
"you have to learn to ignore him. he fights with words because he knows he can't fight with his fists." isaac said with a shrug of his shoulders, and the group erupted into laughter, even me.
"didn't he beat mick's ass last week?" freddie grinned at his friend who was now scowling sourly.
"that was a one off."
"okay mickey."
lunch went by pretty quickly and i was now in pe changing as usual with the three other boys with me. we were talking about finn's new girlfriend again as he couldn't seem to shut up about her. it was cute really, as i thought finn was a guy with no heart for anyone but it appears i was wrong since he seems to be head over heels right now.
"we get it finn, your girlfriend has long luscious blonde locks. you tell us every week." isaac said with a facepalm, but his genuine smile showed us how truly happy he was for his mate.
archie cooper laughed, patting finn on the back encouragingly, "let the man be happy for once!" and we all laughed at his statement.
"yeah, atleast i'm not lonely like you!" finn retailed with a cocky grin, and isaac rolled his eyes.
"i don't want a girl." he huffed.
"and i'm micheal jackson."
"shut the fuck up."
in pe today we were going in groups of four to play against eachother in miniature basketball. i don't even think thats a real thing but mr chadwick calls it that, so we all complied anyway. i searched for a group and tried my best to ignore the growing pit of dread in my stomach.
after noticing isaac in a group with finn, archie and another boy i haven't met before the nerves starting to really set in. reluctantly, i searched for the group i was with last time, i think their names were harvey, jack and evan?
luckily for me i saw the trio sitting alone so i took my chances and approached them.
"hey boys." and they all seemed to somewhat-smile at me. "can i join your group again?"
"where are your other friends?" jack said uncomfortably and i glanced down at my trainers awkwardly.
another one of the boys, who i assumed to be harvey, then spoke up in my defense, "don't be a prick jack, let him be in our group." and i did remember harvey and i bonding last lesson so i guess he saw me as his friend now. thank god.
"fine, fine whatever."
the four of us walked onto a court and faced against another group of boys. we got ready, with harvey starting with the ball and then we let the games commence.
that was horrible. my group lost all of our games except the last one, which was surprisingly against isaac's group. now we had returned to the changing rooms and were having another one of our fun conversations. i had recently started to really like finn and archie, and of course i already liked isaac, so we had a nice little friend group here.
lunchtime came around and i was walking with freddie to our usual table. he was talking to me about how he was going to a taylor swift concert next month and was practically bursting with excitement.
"are you a swiftie, hunts?" he asked me eagerly, and i laughed at the question.
"of course i am, who isn't?"
"GOOD!" he laughed, but then he clearly wasn't looking where he was going as he crashed into a hard chest as we turned a corner.
my eyes widened at the sight.
"watch where you're going, idiot." lionel's voice rung through my eyes as he once again ignored my fierce eyes. instead, he was shooting freddie a cold gaze as my friend shuddered in fright.
"sorry." he mumbled, not looking for some sort of fight right now — or ever. i remained staring blankly at lionel but he wouldn't even look at me. why wouldn't he look at me?
lionel rolled his eyes at my shorter friend before pushing past his side and walking off. i didn't resume walking instead i turned around and watched the boy walk away from us.
"hunter, lets go." freddie said almost as if he knew what i was about to do. i momentarily glanced back at fred, my thoughts rushing around in my mind.
"i..." i glanced back at him, "i have to freddie, i can't stop myself anymore." and with that, i sped walked down the hallways after lionel. i didn't look back at freddie as i really didn't want to see the look of shame i knew he was portraying in his eyes.
so here i was, following loosely behind lionel like a stalker. i waited until we walked onto the pretty deserted field before catching his attention.
"lionel!" i shouted from behind him and he instantly stopped. i remained still, watching as he turned to slowly face me. he had a small smirk playing at his lips, almost as if he knew i was following him.
"took you long enough."
