while i was walking to school the next morning, the thought registered in my mind that i was meeting marianna this morning at the gates. a part of me was quite nervous because of what the boys said about her being interested in me. i hope that's not true, because i really don't feel that way about her...

but boys and girls can be friends without liking eachother so hopefully that's what'll happen between her and i! when i saw the gate up ahead, i shoved my airpods into my pocket and turned off my music and my mobile data on my phone before looking back up. my eyes scanned around the gates until i saw mari leaning against the wall by the bright blue gate.

today, she had her long black hair in two plaits going from the top of her head and was wearing the same skirt she was yesterday. her blue tie was straight, like yesterday, and she looked lovely, like yesterday.

when i approached her, she smiled at me instantly, "hi hunter!"
"hey mari." i grinned back at her. "here's my schedule." i passed it to her as we both started walking side by side through the gates. but i had a weird feeling like someone was watching me...

after we had entered the buidling and started walking aimlessly down the corridor, mari was reading out all the names of my teachers.
"anyway." she said at last. "your first lesson is geography, do you know any friends of your in that class? i'm in history."
"yeah, isaac and cormac should be in that class." i said, pretty sure of my own knowledge. but i knew mickey wouldn't be in my class as he told me he was in the bottom class for every subject.

"okay! that's good then." she said, and as soon as i was about to reply i couldn't as my shoulder was being barged into from behind me.

i coughed at the unexpected hit, turning around to face whoever had purposefully slammed into me. of course, lionel wilson was standing there glaring down at me. only now did i realise how tall this guy actually was.

"do you mind?" i said, and marianna quickly placed her hand on mine, tugging me back trying to get me to retreat. i knew this guy was known as the lion around here so mari was probably scared of him like everyone else, but i wasn't. worse case scenario, lionel will beat me up, but i'll get over it eventually! i won't live my life in fear, not after what happened last time when i did that in primary school.

"excuse me?" the lion retorted, probably not expecting my confident tone.
"i said, do you mind?"
"hunter, you alright? what's going on here?" mickey said, appearing behind me. i turned to face him, and some of the swelling on his face had gone down but he still had one eye bandaged up and multiple other plasters scattered across his long face.

"ah, mickey! what happened to your face?" lionel grinned in pride, and i immediately stared down at the floor. well this just got incredibly awkward. i turned around to realise marianna had gone, what on earth? she was supposed to show me where my first lesson is! ugh, whatever.

"shut your mouth." mickey growled at the overly-confident boy infront of him. lionel smugly crossed his arms, knowing he had the upper hand right now.
"you really wanna speak to me like that? even after what happened yesterday?" he raised an eyebrow, and only then did i look back to lionel from mickey. the red headed boy spared me a quick glance but before i could properly register it he had looked back at mickey.

my black haired friend scoffed, "you don't scare me mate."
"well maybe you should be scared." and with that, lionel pushed mickey up against the wall behind us. my friend tried to scramble out his grip but was unsuccesful due to lionel's strength.

"lionel!" i whisper-shouted, trying not to gain anymore unwanted attention. "put him the fuck down!" and when the red haired boy returned my glance, he complied. his grip loosened and mickey dropped to his feet, taking in deep breaths.

"you're fucking crazy!" mickey reamed at him, brushing himself off quickly and i could practically taste the second hand embarrassment from my friend.
"maybe." lionel said, staring at mickey with pure boredom in his eyes. the boy gave me another quick glance before turning around and stalking away, pushing past anyone in his way in the process.

after the crowd had died down, i turned to mickey and placed a hand on his shoulder. "are you alright?" i asked, my eyes squinting at the sight of my friend being so agitated.
"how did you do that?"
"do what?" i asked.
"make him stop. you made him let me go, how?" he questioned me, and my hand retreated back to my side at the sentence.

my mind pondered for a minute, and mickey was right. i did make lionel let mickey go, but how? bloody hell, i had no clue. i simply shrugged my shoulders at mickey, and he just huffed before taking off in a strop, and i was left standing alone in a packed corridor with no clue where i was going.

lionel had briefly showed me where my tutor was yesterday in the tour, but i completely forgot it. so when the bell rang, i was left stuck in my step. i looked around, watching as all the people walked to where they needed to be. i should just ask someone, but they all seemed to be moving pretty quickly and i didn't wanna make anyone late.

eventually, the corridor was empty and the breezy wind was all i could hear. i held my face in my hands as i rested my back against the wall behind me. well fuck, what do i do now?

unexpectedly, i heard two familiar voices walking down the hallway. by the sound of a pair of high heels approaching me, i knew they were going to see me standing here and probably assume i was skipping or something.

when two people came into view, my eyes widened at the sight of who it was. the red haired principal was walking towards me accompanied by her red haired son.

"huntley? what are you doing here?" mrs wilson said, and i sighed in awkwardness.
"i don't know where my tutor is..." i flushed pink in embarrassment.

the principals gaze softened at me, and i refused to even look at lionel altogether.
"but i was under the impression my son gave you a tour of my school yesterday?" she said and side-eyed her son suspiciously.
"no, no he did!" i quickly reassured her, and only then did i finally look into lionel's eyes. he stared at me with an unreadable expression and i hated it. "i just forgot."

"oh you poor thing!" mrs wilson said to me, which only made me feel worse as i dragged my eyes away from lionel's. "lio, please can you show him where his tutor is again?"
"why me?" the teenager responded rather irritatedly.
"well it's either that or you have detention for hurting that student this morning." she said, and then lowered her voice to continue speaking in the hopes of me not hearing, but i did. after all, i'm sixteen not sixty. "you know i can't keep letting you off so easy."

"okay, whatever." lionel rolled his eyes, and the older lady smiled slightly. "come on then, huntley." lionel grinned at the mention of my full name, but i couldn't help but cringe.
