CARTER POV
One Month Later...
The store is much quieter now that it is about to close. There aren't any people out at this time of night except for the stragglers wanting more to life than what they have.
The clerk waves good night to me as I grab the last of the bags from the counter with both hands. Flipping my right hand under the bag, I give myself more room to grab my phone just in case I need it.
Tonight is a warm night with a clear sky. It ranges pretty high here compared to Maine in the Summer, I am not complaining about it though. The difference is something I have come to love about Hawaii since we have been here.
Three months ago when we got here, it was always touching and go. There was no time to do anything other than stalk and look out for Sarah. Soran along with Mr.Lake was very adamant about that process.
After the two months, we were here, Soran and I finally got Sarah alone to talk to her. Obviously, that didn't work out the way we wanted it to. Unfortunately.
One month ago...
I watch her climb the hill like her life depended on it. There was no stopping her, my voice calling her name hadn't faltered her once.
She was close enough to me that I thought I could grab her, but when I reached out, she drove her legs faster and faster. Something was controlling her and I knew exactly what it was.
Pulling my pockets out of my pants, "shit."
I must have dropped the crystal somewhere along the way here. Sarah was only safe with that crystal. It took the entity's energy from her, so she was isolated. It must have been filled up and needed another one. Alani has the other one, she was afraid to leave her house.
When I chased after her through the forest, I swear she looked at me. Her eyes were glossed over and her chest was rising in fast motions. There was a tune to her ears once she saw Soran running.
"I was hidden from the extreme chaos, but after it was done with me and moved on with you, I saw everything in my dreams." I can hear Soran at the top of the hill talking, "It was a painful thing to endure and still after two years, I am still at a loss."
Trying to get up the hill, I feel a force push me down. A shadow faces me and I show no fear as I get back up.
"You don't control me anymore," pushing all of the unwanted thoughts of jumping off of the cliff, I keep hurling myself up until I am at the top.
One more turn and I will be right behind Sarah and Soran. I need to save him before it is too late.
