I laugh at his attempt to flip the cup over before the hand on the clock hits five. The red solo cup flies across the counter and hits the floor with a light thud.

The time it will take him to succeed at this task will take an eternity. I for sure know I will not be here for that, my patience is running quite thin.

He picks up the cup and sets it back upside down on the counter. This time determination is written all over his face.

"Ready. Set. Go," I yell.

The red cup then flips onto its side, again. He gives up by swatting the cup into to wall, his anger showing a bit.

I smile in his direction telling him it is alright. Jonathan doesn't seem to think it is alright, the pinching of brows proves that.

He throws the cup away in the recycling and places his hands on the counter. His lips curl into a think line, looking off to the clock and back at me again.

"There is this bonfire thing tonight at one of the fields in town, there is usually one at least once a year to start off the Summer." I listen, "it isn't Summer, not for another couple of months, but there is an idea of having one."

"I haven't gone to one in a few years, but my friend asked if I would go this year. I told him I would think about it, would you possibly want to go?"

A bonfire... in the middle of a field ...in this town... with a bunch of teens and young adults? Sounds like a cult sacrifice, never heard of anything like it. Can you hear the sarcasm?

"Will there be smores, music, and possibly weed?" Carter would go if there is weed.

Jonathan nods, "there should be music and food."

With his hands, he shows me how big the fire will be and where all of the chairs and tables are. The way he describes, makes it seem like one from the teen horror movies.

"I will ask Carter, I know he would like something like that." He falters for a moment but quickly recovered. I know he has a crush on me.

The way he talks to me in a calming voice never tries to challenge me, and gets quiet when Carter is around. I would assume he does, if not then what is the harm?

Mr.Lake comes out of the back room, he sets a stack of papers on the counter next to Jonathan. He points to them and tells him to organize them by the time he gets back from lunch.

"He seems stressed," I peek over to look at them.

He pulls them back and places them on the other side of the counter, "you can say that."

"Well, I have to get back to Carter. Oh, what time is the bonfire at?"
