To Be Happy

Chapter 2

More than a week passed when Vegas started to regain consciousness when they hit two weeks and there are no signs of Vegas waking up, Macau started to get anxious. Kei assured the younger that his brother will soon wake up and that he just need a little bit more time.

Another couple of days passed when Vegas finally gain consciousness, his eyes fluttered gently and a soft groan escaped his lips. Hearing the sound, Macau and Kei rushed towards Vegas, Macau immediately cried into Vegas' side while Kei press the call button to have a nurse come and check on Vegas.

It doesn't take long for the nurse to arrive, once Vegas was checked by the nurse and was told he was in good condition, the nurse left. Kei took a seat silently beside Vegas' bed, watching as Macau latched onto Vegas' side while Vegas pats his head, his eyes looking blank.

"What happened?"

"...shot"

"I know, Vegas. But, what ACTUALLY happened?"

"Pa and major family happened"

"Knowing you, I know for a fact if you fight them you won't be in this bad condition. So, what actually happened?"

"I-Nothing"

"Tell me about Pete"

"W-what... How did you know?"

"I'm a Carozza, remember?"

"Right..."

"So, Pete?"

"Pete... I like him"

"He's from the major family, right?"

"Mhm... I... I thought he'll be there for me despite what I did to him... At first, I captured him and tortured him... but he acted kind to me... I started liking him..."

"I'm guessing he escaped"

"Yeah, he escaped... he went back to the major family... I tried to look for him and apologize for the things I did to him... He didn't accept."

"Then your Pa happened?"

"Yeah... He decided to declare war on the major family... We visited them and start shooting... Pa then went to Uncle and was killed, shot in the head... I arrived along with Kinn and Porsche, apparently, Porsche's mom is still alive... Since Pa is killed I decided to leave but as I was out... I got shot..."

"By Pete?"

"By Pete..."

Kei nods at Vegas, watching as he pats Macau with blank eyes. He looks sickly and weak, he doesn't look like himself. Kei made a note to visit the major family with Theo, already planning revenge on behalf of Vegas.

Kei knew Vegas is not entirely kind or merciful, but she knows the things that Vegas has gone through for years. She knew the things happening behind the minor family's closed doors, knew how much Vegas bare the burdens of himself and Macau, knew how much Vegas protects Macau, and knew how much Vegas sacrifices just so he can protect his loved ones.

Kei wanted to help Vegas in some way but he always said no to her, telling her that he doesn't want her to be involved in his mess. Kei doesn't just retreat because of that, she made sure that Vegas has someone who he can depend on or lean on when he's having a hard time and someone to reach out to when he has no one else.

It doesn't stop there, she takes up the role of an older sister to Macau, she knows how much Vegas doesn't want Macau to be involved with the mafia life so when there are fights or deals, anything violent, Vegas would send Macau to Kei.

The relationship between Kei and Vegas is only known to a couple of people, the Carozza family and Macau. They keep their friendship a secret as Vegas finds Kei as someone who he can be fully himself with, someone who he's comfortable being emotionally bare with.

So when Kei heard what happened in Vegas, she can't help but feel fury at the major family, especially with Kinn. Kei has always believed that family has each other's back as she's close with her big brother and big sister and has no feud with her cousins, but after meeting Vegas and knowing how his family dynamics are, she was shocked.

"Kei..."

"Yes, Vegas?"

"I'm tired"

"Don't worry, you have me now"

"Can I have a hug?"

"Sure!"

"Also, Promise to not hurt them, okay"

"No promise with that, but I'll try"

"Thank you for being there for me and Macau"

"No problem, V"

"Can I join the hug too?" Macau chimed in drowsily.

Kei and Macau settled on each Vegas' side, careful to not nudge on the bandage wound. Vegas keeps on patting his younger brother, lulling Macau to sleep while Kei gently leaned on his shoulder.

Once Macau is asleep, Kei starts to tell Vegas how Kinn and Porsche came here and how Macau burst into anger. Kei mentioned that Vegas and Macau shouldn't worry about anything right now as she'll deal with the major family, she tells Vegas that she won't keep quiet anymore.

Vegas was about to retort but knowing Kei, he knew better than to not anger the girl. Vegas softly ask what she's going to do with the family, and Kei mentioned how she wanted them to regret treating Vegas like he's a nuisance. Vegas felt his heart race, he knows Kei will be on his side but he never really knew she'll go this far to defend him.

"You should go to sleep, V"

"I just woke up"

" But you need to rest to fully heal"

"Okay..."

Vegas holds onto Kei's hands and closes his eyes, soon enough he was asleep. Kei stares at the two brothers before beckoning Justin to come over and telling him to contact Theo to tell her brother that she's going to deal with anything that has to do with the Theerapanyakun family.
