Air West Flight 612 was a scheduled domestic passenger flight operated by Air West between Khartoum International Airport (IATA: KRT, ICAO: HSSK), Khartoum, Sudan and El Fasher Airport (IATA: ELF, ICAO: HSFS), Al- Fashir, Sudan, on the 24th of January 2007, the flight was carrying 103 people on board, the flight was operated by a Boeing 737, when it was hijacked shortly after takeoff by a male individual, the plane landed safely at N'Djamena, Cad, that's when the hijacker surrendered.

Mohamed Abdu Altif he was a 26 year old male from Al- Fashir, entered the cockpit of the aircraft at 06:00am UTC, approximately half an hour after the plane took off from Khartoum International Airport, he ordered the pilot to fly to Rome, Italy and then to fly to London, England, the man had a handgun on him.

The pilot explained there wasn't enough fuel on board to reach London, he agreed to fly to Chad, when the flight entered Chadian airspace a French Mirage F-1 fighter jet which was stationed at N'Djamena, which escorted the plane until it landed at N'Djamena International Airport at 08:30am UTC, where the plane was surrounded by Chadian troops, after twenty minutes of negotiation the hijacker allowed all people on board to leave before he surrendered.
