Pictured above is the type of plane that was involved in this accident.
On the 7th of September 1946 at 04:10am local time, an Avro 685 York, registered as Golf- Alpha Hotel Echo Whiskey (G-AHEW), crashed while climbing out of Bathurst- Yundum Airport (IATA: BJL, ICAO: GBYD, now Banjul Airport), Gambia, all 24 people on board the plane were killed in the crash, shortly after takeoff the aircraft had crashed in the bush nearly two miles south of the airfield, the left wing struck trees 40-50 feet (12-15 meters) high and then it crashed through more trees as it rolled over to the left, the plane then burst into flames, all 24 people on board were killed in the crash.
The cause of the crash was the Captain losing control of the aircraft very shortly after it had left the Runway, the cause of the loss of control cannot be determined with certainty, but that it was due to a mishandling of the controls by the Captain, was the most likely explanation.
