On the 5th of August 1984, a Biman Bangladesh Airlines Fokker F-27-600, register as Sierra 2- Alpha Bravo Juliet (S2-ABJ), crashed into a marsh near Zia International Airport (now Shahjalal International Airport, IATA: DAC, ICAO: VGHS), Dhaka, Bangladesh, while the plane was trying to land at the airport in poor weather conditions, the aircraft was performing a scheduled domestic passenger flight which started at Shah Amanat International Airport (IATA: CGP, ICAO: VGEG), Chittagong.

On the plane's third approach to it's destination airport (Their second attempt was on Runway 14), the plane got to low while it was still several hundred meter from the runway but neither crew member realised this due to poor weather conditions and poor visibility and the plane crashed into a swamp about 550 meters short of the runway, with a total death toll of 49 people, it is the deadliest aviation disaster to occur on Bangladeshi soil and it's also the airline's worst accident.
