Aviateca Flight 901, registered as November 125 Golf Uniform (N125GU), was a Boeing 737-200 aircraft that crashed into the 7,159 foot San Vincente Volcano in El Salvador while it was on approach to it's destination airport, on the 9th of August 1995, the accident killed all 65 people on board the plane, it's the deadliest aviation disaster to occur in El Salvador.
Aviateca Flight 901 took off on a night time flight from La Aurora International Airport (IATA: GUA, ICAO: MGGT), Guatemala City, Guatemala to El Salvador International Airport (IATA: SAL, ICAO: MSLP), San Salvador, El Salvador, after 20 minutes into the flight the crew contacted ATC at El Salvador, the controller informed them that there was a thunderstorm with heavy rain over the airport and the controller instructed the crew to fly over the storm and start their approach downwind to land on Runway 07, but the pilots and the ATC were confused as to the position of the aircraft as it started the approach, and then the aircraft entered the same bad weather that it had flown over, when the plane was at 5,000 feet, the GPWS sounded in the cockpit, the flight crew applied thrust but it was to late, at 20:14pm local time Flight 901 crashed into the side of the volcano known as San Vicente and it burst into flames, none of the 65 people survived the crash,
