Elegance by virtue of being fashionable

Cherie's POV

"Guilty for wrongful murder," I hear Sachi audibly gasp, holding onto my hand tightly, "she will be sentenced to execution for tomorrow at dusk.

My legs feel as if I'd been walking through thick, sludgy mud. They tremble in shock and fear as Keely has no emotion with the outcome.

God wasn't listening.

Out of all times I needed God to listen to me, he wasn't there. He didn't save Keely when I begged him.

I fall to my knees, bringing Sachi's body down next to mine from the fast force my body dropped.

Keely's eyes finally search for us, she notices us crying but instead of shedding a tear of her own, she gives us a smile.

"Evil lives within her!"

"The devil has possessed her!"

"She's still possessed!"

"Shut up!" I yell out, tired of hearing everyone say these horrible things about her.

The crowd draws silent, everyone turns towards me with shocked expressions, including the ones I love.

I'm not the one to cause a scene, nor am I the one to bring attention to myself.

"Baby, we sho-" Delroy tries to pull me up and coddle me but I push him away.

"Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!" My vocal chords strangle as I scream at everyone.

They celebrate death, they are celebrating a woman being put to death for doing what she absolutely had to do. I can't watch this, I can't watch them make mockery of her or say these horrible things.

Sachi shields my body with hers, blocking me from everyone and blocking everyone from me.

I hear Amias' little whine, letting me know that I'm scaring him by my outburst.

"Please forgive her, your highness," Delroy speaks, "she's only upset."

Only upset. Only? Only!

Sachi rubs her finger nails along my back, trying to keep my calm, which actually helps from how good it feels.

"Excuse yourselves," King Cassius states, chillingly nonchalantly.

Oh, how I'd drive a stake through your heart right now.

"Don't look up, just keep your head down and follow Delroy out of here," Sachi instructs me.

Once she removes herself from me, Delroy immediately pulls me away.

The walk home is silent but my head swims in voices. Some are angry, some cry out in pain, and some are hopeful. I try to hold onto the hopeful voices but all the others drown it out.

"I'll go fix you some tea," he says as he sits me on the couch and throws a small quilt on top of me.

When his body disappears behind the wall, my tears flow out.

She must be so afraid. She's going to die and all the onlookers will cheer it on in swank clothing as they hang her.
