A joke so unfunny and poorly told that you can't help but laugh
Cherie's POV
Zuko's head pops out from around the corner with a scowl that honestly made my heart stop. For a split second, I thought I was going to get attacked.
His face softens when he notices it's just me.
"It's been a while since we've seen you. I suspected we've scared you away," he says as I step forward to close the door behind me.
I can't contain the hearts in my eyes as he speaks. I've missed them all so much.
"Not at all. Please, forgive me for not visiting sooner, something horrible has happened," I explain while he walks towards me.
As he gets closer, he begins to notice the state of my body.
"What the fuck happened to you?" His aura changes once again, his face hardens with his thick lips drawn into a straight line.
My eyes expand the closer he gets, he expects me to answer him but I don't know how.
"I- um, it's-" I try to piece together.
He lifts me up with ease, making me squeak at the sudden changes in position.
After carefully sitting me on one of the benches, he sits on the floor and lifts my ankle into his large hand. My teeth clench together as I suck in air.
It's no secret that I'm injured. The deep red splotches have already begun to turn a light shade of purple and the scratches have small beads of blood skipping down the length of them.
"Who did this to you?" He growls, not sounding animalistic but instead sounding irate and ready to kill.
His guttural voice makes my skin feel like cold water was splashed against my back. It scares me, but not enough to run.
The door opens to reveal Bakkhos, completely unaware of Zuko's aura, he walks in with Wilder not too far behind him.
"You came back," he states before noticing Zuko on the floor.
"I think she kicked his ass," Wilder whispers not so quietly, making me laugh in response.
Zuko's eyes snap to the two, "shut up, you're distracting her," he scoffs, "tell me what happened."
Bakkhos clenches his jaw, clearly not liking being told what to do while Wilder just pouts with crossed arms.
All their eyes are on me, I can tell without looking.
"My friend, she's with Rabiah," I tell them.
Zuko shrugs, "I'm not asking about her, I'm asking about you."
Bakkhos comes closer and places his hand on my shoulder, "what're you so upset about?" He asks Zuko.
Zuko presses his lips together and points to my ankle.
Bakkhos' hand tightly squeezes my shoulder, making me twist my face in pain. I doubt he knows he's hurting me.
"If you don't start speaking, I'm going to get Rabiah to crawl through that hole and find out," Bakkhos threatens.
"No!" I panic.
Everyone's shocked looks are directed towards my tone of voice. I never get loud or intend to sound disrespectful, but for a split second, I didn't care. I just want to keep them safe and they won't be safe in Abandale.
