The Mountain Kingdom Road
Jennie was sitting inside her carriage as she listened to her people telling her the news of the attack on Manoban Family territory just a few days before.
"So Lisa managed to return in time?" Jennie smiled at the news, "That's good!"
When the man suddenly has to return, she secretly sent her people to find out what happened. From them, she found out that the Kai Kingdom used the chance of Lisa going away from the territory to attack them.
"But to think that old man was chosen as Lisa's replacement..." Jennie frowned upon hearing that news. If Leo was the one holding control over Lisa's soldiers, there was little doubt that they would lose in a matter of days.
"They nearly lose in just a few clashes," Yeji added.
Jennie wore a face as she had already guessed it. There was no way that Leo could replace Lisa in terms of leading the soldiers. If Leo knew that Jennie was looking down at him too, he might consider burying his head into the ground out of shame, and that was if he still has a sense of shame.
Yeji looked at her Miss expression before continuing the report, "They also executed the spy, going by the name Shin-Hye."
Hearing that name, Jennie stilled for a moment. She knew two people on their side that have the surname of Qin. Shin-Hye's maiden name was Qin, But Shin-Hye was eliminated firsthand from her mind because she had met with her directly and knew that she loved Lisa, so it shouldn't be her. As for the other one...
"Jackson's fake mother?" Jennie asked with a frown.
"Yes," Yeji answered carefully. Her mind thought about the word 'fake'. Jennie was also investigating the imperial family and found a rather weird secret. When Yeji first delivered the result of the investigation to Jennie, the girl looked rather perplexed. Now that the woman was actually harming her friend, Yeji was not sure how Jennie would feel.
Jennie didn't say anything for a while then she dismissed the other. Her finger tapped the table in front of her a few times as she thought about it.
"If you still didn't want to rest, I will tie you up for the rest of the journey," Chan barged into her carriage and said immediately.
Jennie looked up. Unknown to her, the carriage stopped for a moment to allow Chan to get down and climbed up hers. This grandfather of hers still didn't have any manners to barge into a girl's carriage.
"I'm resting properly."
"No, you're not," Chan put the paper in front of her away and looked towards the girl's eye, "You're exerting your mind to think a lot of things, the news you get, and the next plan after we reach the capital."
Jennie evaded her grandfather's eyes, "That's already common. It won't make my wound worse too."
"You're really stubborn," Chan said with a sigh. He really didn't know what this little lass was thinking. There would be no need for him to force her to speak too if she didn't want to, so he just leaned back in his chair and pointed outside.
"There are a lot of children playing outside. Do you want to join them?"
"Grandpa...I'm already 15."
"15 is still a kid," Chan said, "Besides, you're not married yet, so you're still under my care."
"..." Are you telling me to hurry and marry someone?
Jennie chose to ignore the last statement from her grandfather and looked outside of the carriage. They were passing through several small cities. and she could see the children playing with their friends on the street. Seeing them, she recalled her childhood, when she once played with other children too.
"If you want to get out, you can."
Jennie tried to move her body slightly. After finding out that she can move rather fine due to her grandfather forcing her to lie down almost every day, she had mostly recovered. She climbed down the carriage's steps. Within a short moment, she had arrived near the children.
"Hello," she greeted them with a smile.
The children were all looking at her in astonishment. This was the first time they saw someone as pretty as her and it made them speechless.
It took them quite some time to greet her back, "Hello, big sister."
Jennie smiled, "What are you playing?"
"We are playing...."
Chan watched as his granddaughter play with the kids on the grassland with a smile. He rarely saw her playing around like that and this view truly reminded him of his son and daughter when they were still a kid.
"She really stood out."
Among the children there, it was really easy to spot Jennie with her extraordinary graceful movement and astonishing feature. Even if he stood a few hundred meters away from her, he was sure that he would be able to see her silhouette just fine and recognized the other party immediately.
"Old Master, several people are coming," one of the guards reported respectfully.
"Clean them up, don't let her notice them," Chan answered immediately, "If you make any noise that let her realize the situation, I will increase your training using hers."
The guard said his agreement, but deep down he wanted to cry. With your granddaughter's martial art, there was no way she would realize the appearance of the enemy later than us. If you want her to not know about them, you should have put her at least one kilometer away from here.
He knew that he would surely get additional training after this, but what could he say? He has failed to come in time to protect them and his task now was to guard the two of them safely. With resigned feeling, he tried to do his job as quietly as possible.
In the end, Jennie didn't even bother them and continued playing for some time before saying her farewell to the children. She looked towards her grinning grandfather.
"If Grandpa wanted to play, you should have joined us," Jennie remarked.
"No way, I'm already too old to play games with kids," Chan immediately refused, "Though I might do that if we are not surrounded by the guards."
The guards: "..."
Hearing Chan's remarks, they immediately turned their body around and looked towards the surrounding. The scenery in the mountain range was quite beautiful and today's atmosphere was good, so they fixed their eyes on the surrounding intently. It was as if they were afraid they would die if they didn't.
Jennie face-palmed, "Grandpa, you can play if you want and I will return to my carriage."
"I want to play with my cute granddaughter too," Chan immediately added.
"No thank you," Jennie answered and entered the carriage as fast as possible. If she stayed outside any longer, she knew that her shameless grandfather would start saying nonsense as much as he could.
She looked towards the paper on the carriage once more, this time she no longer felt as bad as before. The news of the battle will soon reach the other areas. She was curious as to how they would react. Aside from that, she wondered how to explain her next plan to her grandfather without the other party being angry again.
Chan smiled at his granddaughter's response and turned towards his carriage. It has been quite a day, time to return to the palace.
