— ME AND JOHNNY WERE CLOSER THAN EVER

We had been spending a lot of time together, maybe too much time. Either way, we enjoyed every single second spent together. It was as if every waking moment was with him, which may have been the case, even if I didn't care to admit it.

The weeks that had gone by were filled with numerous dates and time well spent with one another. Whether he would come over to my house and we would hold one another, make out, or just soak in one another's presence. I was grateful for it all, as I knew not many people were able to find a boy like Johnny. He was special, because among the many other men who didn't treat their women the way that they should be treated, Johnny was the opposite. He was chivalrous among many things, and that's what made him a gentlemen. Even if it were basic manners, it was still heartwarming, and not many boys are taught to be that way.

Johnny had fully introduced me to his gang. There was Ponyboy, Sodapop, and Darry who were all brothers. Then there was Steve who worked with Sodapop at the DX, which I occasionally went to now for a quick visit to pick up some snacks or just to have a chat. Then there was Two-Bit of course, who I had already encountered a few times. Then, Johnny's role model, Dallas Winston. I had heard about him a lot throughout town as he was known for being Tulsa's juvenile delinquent, and even though he was considered dangerous to most, he was tuff to Johnny— and I respected Dally because of that. You just had to, as Pony always put it, even though he's scared shitless of Dallas.
