— IT ALL HAPPENED QUICKLY

After Johnny was taken away that night, he was out on probation until his trial came around. The whole gang was present as everybody presented their statement in front of the court. Once it was my turn, I looked at Johnny as he sat next to his lawyer, one that we were able to get through Dally's family (surprisingly). Tears filled my eyes as I recalled what had happened that night. I protested and heightened the fact that it was through self defence, that he had no choice.

The case was never going to be won fully, Johnny wasn't going to be free and we all knew that. But thankfully, Dally's lawyer was a good one— and so Johnny got 2 years in reformatory. He would stay there until he turned 18, and then he would be fully released.

I waited those long and painful 2 years, and they were worth it. In the end, me and Johnny got out of Tulsa like we had always talked about. We always wanted to live a mundane and full life, get good jobs and maybe even start a family of some sort. That was every person in Tulsa's dream of course, but we didn't want to stay in Tulsa. We wanted to get away, far away. The memories would be left behind and we would be able to have a fresh start.

Once Johnny was released, I had finished high school just in time. I was able to get a degree as I had worked hard those 2 years. I didn't have anything else to worry about, so I could easily focus and work toward my goal.
