Mai didn't wake up that day, she didn't wake up the next day either, or that evening. It wasn't until two nights later she woke up.
Most people wake up after suffering a severe injury slowly, and calmly. Mai on the other hand, her eyes snapped open. The lights of the room she was in were blinding, and she immediately moved her hand to shield her eyes from the brightness.
Her body felt numb, not in any way sore, just numb.
As her eyes adjusted to the light, she regained the memories of two days beforehand. She slowly looked down to her abdomen where a large white bandage was wrapped around her body. Then, she looked around madly, she was in a hospital.
Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, she suddenly jolted from where she lay.
Swinging her legs over the side of the bed, Mai stood up. Her body was incredibly stiff, but still no pain had hit yet. But she didn't care if it had, there was only one thing on her mind.
Nervously, the girl turned the lock slowly. Once she heard the click, she opened the door slightly. The hall was empty, almost eery. Swinging the door open, Mai tried to look for any sign of life. She walked through the halls as quietly as possible and headed for the elevator.
Once hitting the button, Mai looked around the halls. Her eyes landed on one thing- a clock. The arrows indicated it was quarter past two in the morning. "No wonder no-ones around." She spoke to herself, her voice hoarse.
Once the elevator doors dinged, Mai went to walk in but was taken by surprise at what she saw in there.
She stood in silence staring, her mind not comprehending what she was seeing.
"Mai..."
"Oh!" The girl cried out, jumping towards the blonde. Bakugou didn't shove the girl to the ground, or scream in her face for touching him. Instead, his eyes welled with tears and he hugged the girl tighter to him.
"You're such an idiot." He spoke softly. Mai laughed through her tears. "How the hell am I in worse shape than you right now?" She joked. Bakugou pulled away from the girl and his smile slowly dropped. "I have a lot to tell you."
"It's your turn next."
Mai's mouth dropped in shock and slammed the iPad down in bewilderment. "Oh my god." Bakugou raised a brow at the girl. "Did you say Midoriya had saved you?"
"He didn't save me!" Bakugou shouted. "But he was there...?" Mai phrased the question differently. "And All Might had definitely seen him?" She asked. "I suppose he would've, yes. Why?"
Everything finally came together. The fact the man All Might was fighting could take quirks, probably give them considering Nomu's exist. All Might inviting Midoriya to the I-Island preview, and now him stating this broad phrase, 'it's your turn next.' Who else could he be referring to than Midoriya-Kun? Mai's thoughts raced through her head.
Midoriya had taken All Might's quirk.
"I knew it."
"What do you know?" Bakugou interrupted the girls thoughts. She froze in shock, forgetting the boy could hear her.
She battled with her thoughts on whether to tell Bakugou or not. On one hand it was her best friend- but on the other, he wanted any way of staying above Midoriya in our school rankings.
"Do you... know something?" Bakugou questioned, looking down at the iPad, scrolling back to when All Might had said the line.
Mai raised a brow and her eyes flashed between Bakugou and the screen. "Do you know something?" She asked, wondering if the boy knew the same as her.
