Prompt:
You and Bridgette had known of each other since you were in grade school. When one of your friends introduced you to Bridgette at a summer kickback a few years ago, it was no surprise that you two would quickly hit it off. From that day forward, you did everything together, from hiking to learning how to skateboard. You were so close with Bridgette that some people would even say you were siblings. Now that it was the summer before senior year, you and Bridgette wanted to make as many memories with each other as you could before school started back up.
One day, when Bridgette had suggested you guys should go to the beach together to surf, you had grown quiet and backed down on the idea. Bridgette was a bit taken back, especially since you were always up to do anything.
"What's wrong?" Bridgette asked, tilting her head cautiously.
You fiddled with her thumbs, taking in a breath of air. "I don't know how to swim," you admitted in a soft tone, feeling a bit embarrassed.
You had always been athletic, but you had never been able to master the art of swimming. Bridgette, on the other hand, had grown up in the water and was an excellent swimmer and surfer.
When you broke the news to her, Bridgette was quite surprised to learn that about you. However, she was determined to teach you.
"Well, I can always teach you at the beach," Bridgette offered. "You know, I've been surfing ever since I was a little kid."
"I don't know, Bridgette..." you trailed off. "I'm nervous."
Bridgette took your hand. "It's okay to feel that way. But I'll be with you," Bridgette reassured you.
You bit your lip, appreciating the offer, but you were still apprehensive. Bridgette had noticed your uneasiness, squeezing your hand for comfort.
"It'll be fun. We can go to the beach and spend all day in the water," Bridgette added on. "But we don't have to go far in. I can teach you the basics for now."
You hesitated for a moment, but then you shrugged, caving in. "Okay, I guess I'll give it a try."
You both headed to the beach that day, where Bridgette had grown up surfing. After setting camp in the sand, Bridgette took you to the shoreline and gave you some tips.
"Okay, first things first," she said. "You need to learn how to float."
You took a deep breath and laid down on your back. You tried to float, but you kept sinking.
"Whoa, easy there," Bridgette spoke, patting you on the back gently. "You'll get it eventually. Just keep practicing."
You tried to float again, but you still couldn't get the hang of it.
"I don't think I can do this," you uttered, feeling discouraged.
Bridgette put her arm around you. "Don't worry, Y/N. You'll get it. Just keep trying."
You nodded, feeling a bit better. You tried again, and this time you managed to float for a few seconds.
"I did it!" you exclaimed, hugging Bridgette.
Bridgette smiled. "See? I told you you could do it."
As the day went on, Bridgette continued to teach you how to swim. You guys practiced floating, kicking, and even diving. You were a quick learner, and soon you were swimming on your own.
"Look at you, Y/N!" Bridgette said, beaming with pride. "You're a natural!"
You laughed, feeling grateful for Bridgette's praise. "Thanks, Bridge. I couldn't have done it without you."
As the summer wore on, Bridgette continued to teach you how to swim. You both spent hours in the water, and you were getting better every day. You couldn't help but feel extremely grateful for Bridgette's kindness, support, and patience.
Questions to keep in mind as you envision yourself interacting with Bridgette:
Who introduced you to Bridgette? Whose summer kickback were you at? What year/how old were you when you guys hit it off? What was the reason for not learning how to swim? What color swim suit did you wear to the beach? At the end of the summer, did Bridgette ever teach you how to surf?
