Prompt:
You and Duncan had decided to grab a bite to eat together, just the two of you. It was a rare occasion for some quality time away from all the craziness and drama that went on in your lives. As young adults, you cherished these moments, enjoying the bond you had built over time.
You stumbled upon a cozy little restaurant tucked away in a quiet corner of the city. The place had a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the delicious smell of food filled the air. You found a comfortable booth and started looking through the menu, discussing the different options.
"I'm thinking of going for the steak," you said, scanning the descriptions. "What about you, Duncan?"
Duncan smirked mischievously, his eyes gleaming. "Well, tonight I'm feeling rebellious. I might just have to switch it up and try the chicken marsala instead."
You chuckled, shaking your head. "You never stop pushing boundaries, huh? Just make sure you're ready for the different flavour from what you're used to."
After placing your orders, the excitement continued to build. The conversation flowed effortlessly, with Duncan sharing his latest antics, making you laugh.
Before you knew it, the waiter arrived with your meals. Your plate looked like a masterpiece - a perfectly seared steak accompanied by roasted vegetables and creamy mashed potatoes. It was a feast for the senses.
But as you glanced over at Duncan, something seemed off. His usual rebellious spirit was replaced with a hint of disappointment as he stared at his meal, slowly chewing on a piece of chicken.
Concerned, you leaned in closer, gently touching Duncan's arm. "Hey, what's wrong? I've never seen you hesitate to devour a meal before. Is everything okay?"
Duncan met your gaze, revealing a vulnerability he rarely showed. "I don't want to ruin our night by complaining, but I'm just not feeling it today. This dish doesn't capture my taste buds."
Your heart melted at his honesty. You understood his desire to keep the evening positive, but you also knew his struggles with certain foods. In that moment, a creative idea popped into your mind, and you couldn't help but offer a solution.
"Hey, how about we switch plates? I know how picky of an eater you can be, and I don't mind trying your dish," you suggested, a smile forming on your face.
Duncan's teal eyes widened, surprise and gratitude shining through. He paused for a moment, then flashed you a genuine smile. "You would do that for me?"
You nodded, quickly swapping plates, trading the comfort of your own meal for the unknown. The first bite of Duncan's food exploded with rich, sweet, and savoury flavours. You couldn't help but let out a satisfied hum, much to Duncan's amusement.
Duncan chuckled, watching your reaction. "Not bad, huh?"
Grinning, you savored another bite. "Not bad at all. I gotta say, this is better than the steak I ordered."
Duncan's trademark smirk tugged at the corners of his lips as he leaned back in his seat, his arms crossed. "Well, I gotta say, you surprised me, Y/N. I didn't think you had it in you to trade your precious steak for my mediocre chicken concoction."
You rolled your eyes playfully, knowing he couldn't resist teasing you. "Oh, please. I'm just showing you that I can handle anything you throw my way. Besides, it's not every day that I get to see you actually grateful."
Duncan chuckled, a mischievous tilt of his head hinting at his playful natures "Don't get used to it. Gratitude isn't really my thing, but I'll make an exception for you." He held up his fork, gesturing to your switched plates. "Cheers to stepping out of our comfort zones, huh?"
You clinked your fork against his, a smirk matching his own forming on your face. "Cheers, tough guy. Who knew that taking a culinary risk could lead to such a bonding moment?"
As you both continued to savor the flavors of your swapped meals, Duncan's tough exterior melted away, revealing a genuine warmth in his expression. "Seriously, though. Thanks for doing this. It's nice to have someone who understands my picky taste buds and doesn't judge me for it."
You nodded, your smile softening. "You know you can always count on me, Duncan. We may clash sometimes, but when it comes down to it, we're in this together. And hey, trying new things isn't so bad after all."
"Yeah, I guess you're not as boring as I thought. Maybe there's a bit of adventure in you yet, Y/N," Duncan joked.
You playfully shoved his shoulder, a challenge in your tone. "Oh, please. You haven't seen anything yet, Duncan. This is just the beginning of our culinary escapades."
He smirked, leaning in closer. "Bring it on, babe. I'm ready for whatever you've got."
Questions to keep in mind as you envision yourself interacting with Duncan:
Are you and Duncan dating? How do you feel when Duncan flirts with you? Have you ever ate at this restaurant before? Who picked out the restaurant? What is your go to order? Or do you like to explore different options? What does Duncan usually eat? Did you feel closer with Duncan after this night out?
