Prompt:
The basketball game was reaching its climactic moments. It could potentially be the last game of the season, and Wawanakwa High was down by two points. The tension in the gymnasium was palpable, as the crowd anxiously watched the clock tick away. You chewed on your lip, your eyes looking towards the huddle of basketball boys.
With less than a minute on the clock, the coach made a decision during their lasts time out, sending in the seniors who didn't usually get much playing time. This included Tyler, who was your boyfriend and dedicated teammate.
As he stepped onto the court, he could feel the weight of the game on his shoulders. He wanted to show his high school and the opposing team the potential that he had. The crowd's energy seemed to surge around him, and he took a deep breath to steady his nerves. This was his chance to show everyone what he was capable of in the last game of the season.
"Show them what you've got, Tyler!" you shouted from the crowd as Tyler stood on the court.
Tyler sent you a determined smile. He knew he had to give it his all.
The game resumed, the clock ticking down to its final seconds. The ball was passed to Tyler, and he dribbled it down the court, his heart pounding in his chest. He spotted an opening and made a quick pass to his teammate, who drove towards the basket but was blocked by a defender.
With ten seconds left on the clock, Tyler's instincts kicked in. He sprinted towards the three-point line, positioning himself for a potential shot, just like he had seen his favorite Canadian basketball players do. His mind raced, recalling the countless hours he had spent practicing his shooting skills.
"Take the shot, Tyler!" one of his teammates yelled, urging him on.
"You got it!" you encouraged from your stance. This seemed to fuel Tyler's adrenaline.
He took a deep breath, blocking out the noise of the crowd, and released the ball with precision. It soared through the air, its trajectory seemingly perfect. Time seemed to slow down as the ball arced towards the basket.
The crowd held their breath, their eyes locked on the ball as it neared the rim. It danced on the edge, teasing everyone with the possibility of victory. And then, with a satisfying swish, it dropped through the net, tying the game in the last moments of the season.
The gymnasium erupted into a mix of cheers and gasps. Tyler's teammates rushed towards him, patting him on the back and celebrating the game-changing shot. But amidst the chaos, Tyler's eyes darted towards the stands, searching for your familiar face.
He spotted you, your eyes filled with exhilaration. Without hesitation, Tyler broke free from his teammates' grasp and sprinted towards you, a wide grin spreading across his face. The crowd's roars filled his ears, but all he could focus on was reaching you.
"Y/N! Did you see that? I nailed the shot!" Tyler exclaimed, pulling you into a hug.
You beamed at him, your heart swelling with pride as you rested your head on his sweaty chest. "Tyler, that was incredible! You completely turned the game around. I knew you had it in you!"
Tyler's brown eyes twinkled with a mixture of joy and disbelief as you two broke apart. He scratched his neck, a sheepish smile displayed on his face. "Thanks, Y/N! I really couldn't have done it without your support."
As the crowd started to settle down, Tyler leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a playful whisper. "You know, Y/N, I've been practicing those shots all week. I wanted to surprise everyone in the last game of the season."
You chuckled, impressed by his dedication. "Well, it definitely paid off. You had everyone on their feet. You're a natural, Tyler."
Tyler's smile widened, and he punched your arm. "You're the best, Y/N. But uh... seriously, thank you for cheering me on. I'm glad to have someone who is so supportive and all..."
"Not a problem," you said to him, feeling a blush creep up to your cheeks. Tyler wasn't great at expressing his words, but you knew he deeply appreciated the support you have shown him, on and off the court. "I love being your biggest fan. Plus, you will always be a total champ in my eyes, babe."
Questions to keep in mind as you envision yourself interacting with Tyler:
How long has Tyler been playing basketball for? How much playing time did he normally get per game? When did you guys start dating? Have you been to all of his basketball games? What other sports does Tyler play? Have you ever helped Tyler practice his skills? Do you plan on taking him out to eat to celebrate?
