A/N
I changed the title because I didn't like it, and I thought this might attract more readers haha. To be honest, I don't know what to call this story so we're sticking with this title for now.
Prompt:
You were walking down the hallway of Wawanakwa High, your backpack slung over one shoulder. You were running late for your next class and had been hurrying all morning. You had been distracted all morning and it showed, as you weren't paying attention to where you were going. Suddenly, you collided with someone, making them drop their books. You flinched, waiting for the inevitable scolding about being careless. However, you were surprised to find yourself looking into the face of a familiar classmate.
"Hey Noah," you said, recognizing the figure as the sarcastic bookworm from your history class.
Noah's scowl softened a bit when he realized who he was looking at. "Oh, it's you," he said with a small sigh of relief. "I was about to give you a lecture about watching where you're going, but I guess I can let it slide this time."
You gave him an awkward smile as you bent down to help him pick up his things. "Sorry about that," you said, handing him a few of the books that had scattered around the hallway.
Noah shook his head in amusement. "It's fine," he said, gathering up the last of his books. "I guess I should have been paying attention too."
You laughed nervously, feeling relieved that he wasn't angry with you. "So, what are you doing here?" you asked, as you two began to walk down the hallway together.
Noah shrugged. "Just heading to class. I had to pick up a few things from the library."
You nodded, feeling somewhat awkward. You hadn't really interacted with Noah before, outside of the occasional joke in class. You had heard a few things about him from other classmates, mainly that he was a bit of a loner and kept to himself.
"So, do you talk to any of the other students here?" you asked, trying to make conversation.
Noah gave you a sideways glance, as if he was sizing you up. "I talk to a few of them, like Owen," he said finally. "Most of them aren't worth knowing, though."
You raised your eyebrows in surprise, not expecting such a blunt response. "What do you mean?"
Noah sighed, his expression turning a bit more serious. "Let's just say that some of the people here aren't exactly the best of the bunch. They care more about popularity and status, so I stay away from them as much as possible."
You nodded in understanding. "It must be hard," you said softly.
Noah shrugged again. "It's not so bad. I just try to keep my head down and focus on my studies. That's why I'm here, after all."
You smiled, feeling a newfound respect for Noah. You had always assumed he was a loner because he was antisocial, but now you realized that he was just trying to stay away from the drama and negativity of the school.
The two of you continued down the hallway, talking about classes and teachers. You found yourself laughing more than you had in a while, as Noah had a sarcastic wit and a dry sense of humor that you couldn't help but appreciate.
Questions to keep in mind as you envision yourself interacting with Noah:
What label would you give yourself in this alternate universe? How many times have you interacted with Noah? Did you have a sense of humor like Noah? Are you a new student at Wawanakwa High? How do you now see Noah after talking to him? What were your opinions on Noah before running into him?
