Rose POV:

I was sitting before my massive makeup mirror but only really looking into my handmirror. I placed it down as Cal entered the room. "I know you've been melancholy. I don't pretend to know why. " He said, taking a few steps towards me. He was holding a large box which he stared down at. "I intended to save this for the engagement gala next week but I thought that tonight..." he began as he flicked open the box, revealing a gorgeous blue, seemingly heavy necklace cut in the shape of a heart.

"It's a diamond. 56 carats to be exact. It was worn by Louis XVI and they called it la couer de la mer," he explained, slowly placing it around my neck. "The heart of the ocean" I translated, staring into the mirror at the heavy jewel worn around me. "Its overwhelming," I replied, not looking away from my reflection. "Well, it's for royalty. We are royalty, Rose. You know, theres nothing I couldn't give you. There's nothing I'd deny you. If you would not deny me. Oh, open your heart to me, Rose" he said, staring into my eyes.

I stared back at him and it became a realisation. He was trying to buy my love. He knew words couldn't give it to him so he was attempting to throw money into it. I looked back to my reflection and slowly covered my heart with my hand.
