Author's POV

It was after Asr, but the color of Kano at that moment was dull. Dark clouds blanketed the bright sky, pouring in a light shower. It's August afterall, so it ought to rain almost every single day. The constant rainy weather irked Sul to no ends. He knew it won't be thesame thing if he was in Sokoto. It never rained back to back like this in Sokoto. He casted his eyes down, feeling a little bit nostalgic. Saying he missed that place is a gross understatement. He never imagined there'd come a day which he'd exile himself from the place he spent all of his life in. Sokoto was the place he wanted all of his generation to sprout up in.

Unfortunately, the wheel of luck had turned upside down for him.

He leaned on his Range Rover, holding an umbrella above his head. He's lucky, it's not raining heavily today. If not, this umbrella won't be of any help to him. He always keeps it in his car though, just in case. His tyres are already stained with the muddy waters resting in puddles. He doesn't even need to check cause that's an unstoppable fact. Kano is a more developed place compared to Sokoto. At least, they weren't lacking in infrastructures. They had good, continuous roads. It's just that, he's tasked with coming to the construction site every day. it was located downtown, in the much remote and industrial part of Kano, so there's no stopping the place from being rocky and gravelly and holding puddles whenever it rained.

The sound of pounding, clanking and sizzling of metals sliced through the air, but it was music in his ears. He watched thoroughly with his green safety jacket and orange safety helmet on. Only the finishing touches remained and the laborers were on it, screwing in the brandmark board on the tall iron gate.

Finally, the fruit of hardwork. From a warehouse ruins to a natural gas refinery. Sul has never felt so proud of himself. For the past few months, he has never found rest. Buying off the warehouse was the first struggle, but demolishing it and rebuilding it was an even bigger struggle. It costed him almost all of his assets. He couldn't reject Samir's helping hand too. Samir helped him get a license to start this brand and also linked him up with trustworthy suppliers. Everything was slowly falling into place piece by piece. This natural gas was the first step to SK Industries Limited; his very own. The plan was to start with the natural gas refinery first and expanding into more fields in the future. Like a manufactory of salt, sugar, oil and even crude oil.

Abd Gaffar hurried out of the construction site, holding out his hands above his head to protect his clothes. Sul wondered why he wasn't wearing the safety jacket. Abd Gaffar was the head overseeing the construction. He's always spectacular with his work, however very unprofessional. In terms of the way he speaks and dresses. For example now. He's not even wearing the helmet and jacket. Even Sul that's not even inside of the site is wearing one, talkless of him.

Abd Gaffar stared at Sul after greetings, hoping he'd at least let him into the umbrella, but Sul refused to budge, not leaving a slight hint of remorse.

"Honestly I don't even know how I got a deal with someone like you. You're so cold" Abd Gaffar commented, but Sul continued with the cold shoulder. He didn't come here to listen to someone compliment him badly. He wanted the usual rundown of the work covered today and what would be next. That was the main essence of him hollering over here every day.

Abd Gaffar chuckled to himself, shaking his head. His business partner would just never change. He wanted peace, so he quickly gave Sul the information he needed without being anymore meddlesome. Sul nodded robotically, folding his umbrella. The rain shower ended simultaneously with Abd Gaffar's briefing.

Sul had not one minute to waste after getting what he wanted. Abd Gaffar said his goodbyes respectfully and jogged back, disappearing into the construction site. Sul didn't respond to his goodbyes and simply unlocked his car, pushing the now folded umbrella underneath the driver's seat. He removed the construction jacket and helmet, flinging them in the backseat before climbing in and revving the car to life. He set the gears and hit the pedal, driving out of the area. He still had a lot of work to do, and it's not even paperwork. If only it were paperwork, he thought. It comprises of contacting, contacting and contacting. His company introduction was going to happen soon and it has to be perfect. Since the industry is now in it's finishing stage, the presentation is the next most important thing for him. He doesn't need to try, since even if he doesn't ask, Samir would undercover do private negotiations and get him enough investors. However, he has to. He wants to beat his chest in the future that SK Industries Limited is something he singlehandedly moulded from the very scratch.
