Author's POV

The atmosphere was incredibly grim. Everyone from Zahradeen Noma's family was present and lining up the corridor, all with heavy hearts. Some shaking thier heads disappointedly, some talking in hushed manners and some speechless.

Mr Zahradeen quietly sat alone on one of the iron chairs provided in the corridor. He had stayed away from everyone and held his throbbing head in his hands. He didn't even know what to make of this. One catastrophe after the other. Occuring in his own family. His perfect family which had zero history of catastrophes.

Such is life.

Even in business, there were ups and downs, talkless of in real life itself. He didn't understand why he felt so shocked and threatened within himself. Allah was only testing him, and it's the ability to pass this test which would deem him victorious.

The doctor came out of the room, taking off his medical facemask. Everyone gathered around him, demanding for an explanation.

Was she saved, or was she not? The popular question in everyone's mind.

He ignored all of them and made his way out of the crowd they formed. He stopped no where but in front of Mr Zahradeen.

"Can you come with me to the office?" He demanded at Mr Zahradeen

He raised his head and looked at him before nodding. "Sure."

They walked together until inside of the doctor's office. They settled down on the cushions present in the office. One across the other.

"Tell me, Doctor" Mr Zahradeen clasped his fingers together, getting ready for the worse. The doctor had chosen to talk to no one but him, being the present guardian of the patient. It must mean that something grave had happened. Ummul Khayr was his child. And he loved all of his kids dearly. He'd have to accept whatever it is, but additional sadness is a must should she not be able to make it. He hasn't even finished dealing with his beloved wife's death and now his own child?

"I'm sorry, but she has went into a coma" the doctor said with a sigh. He was holding the medical reports.

Mr Zahradeen nodded grimly. So indeed, it's really grave. But as long as she's not dead, all hope is not lost. Mr Zahradeen piously chose to have faith in Allah and his miracles.

Dr Umar was a son of his good friend, and also one of the few doctors in Sokoto which he could trust with his life. He hoped that they'd do anything to revive his child.

"The family needs to pray hard for her. But I assure you Sir. If it's anything in that's in our power, we'll do all we can to make sure she's saved."

Yes, he knew he could trust Dr Umar.

"I trust you, Umar" he patted his knee, forcing a smile.

"Here are the medical reports"

He collected them from Dr Umar and began to read. But he couldn't quite decipher the message contained. Dr Umar was going to explain anyways.

"We found a huge dose of brompheniramine in her bloodstream. This drug is a sedative hypnotic and is used as stimulant for sleep. Apparently, she overdosed on it, explains why she convulsed. She's no longer in danger because of it because we've gotten rid of the poisoning. However...." He trailed off

"However?" Mr Zahradeen questioned

"Uncle, is she okay? Cause that she could think about taking it, obviously she knows what dose is right or not. From the testimony that girl who found her gave, it's unlikely that she was poisoned."
