We ended up walking back home with Rinus and I noticed our front door was opened, which made me worry.
"Why is our front door open?" I questioned.
"Uh, Max..." Sav began before Tess took over.
"Is... is that Simone's bike?" She asked making me look and see Tim's as well and knew what this meant.
"Well, it was nice knowing you both." I told them, knowing what this meant before we headed inside.
"Max, it might not be that bad." Sav told me, to try and reassure me.
"Tim's a pretty sharp guy. I'm sure by now, he's found out the truth about Erik and Kate. I'm gonna go pack my bags." I explained to them, knowing the what the next stop for me is.
"Stop overreacting." Tess told me as Sav took my hand in hers and squeezed it to reassure me.
"I'm not overreacting! I've been down this road before, okay? I'm history. We all are."
"They wouldn't just split you kids up like that, would they?" Rinus asked me.
"I hope not. I've got no other friends other wise, except this weird group of Hunters." Sav stated.
"Mister, these guys may act all nice and concerned, but at the end of the day, it's all about covering their backs. When they figure out Erik and Kate are missing, pfft, we're-- we're done."
"I wish there was something I could do to help." Rinus admitted.
"Who says there isn't." Save stated making us all look at her and I realised what she worked out.
"Sav's right. Maybe there is."Once we worked out the plan, we rushed upstairs to see Tim was covered in purple paint and talking to the others.
"... but you guys aren't leaving me a lot of choice. Now, either somebody tells me what's going on or else I'll--" he began before Rinus cut him off.
"How may I help you?"
"And you are?" Tim asked.
"Casper Hunter. Erik's older brother." Rinus told him.
"Much older, I'd say." Sal joked, making Daniel lightly tap him to signal to stay quiet.
"Yes, yes, yes, it's true I'm no spring chicken. Good thing you are all so easy to take care of, or I wouldn't be able to handle it every time Erik and Kate asked me to look after you."
"Where are Erik and Kate?" Tim asked.
"Didn't the children tell you? Why are you keeping it a secret, huh? They're out of town on an unexpected trip. Sort of a... a very important... archeological finding, you know?" Rinus explained to Tim and it seemed like he was buying it. "Now, how come no one has offered this gentlemen..."
"Tim." He introduced.
"How come no one has offered Mr. Tim some clean clothes? Where are your manners?"
"Sorry... uncle Casper." Anika told going along with it, which seemed to seal the deal with Tim.
"Well, I'm glad somebody is looking after them." Tim told as the two shook hands.
"Yes, well, of course. You don't think Kate and Erik would leave them all alone, do you?" Rinus joked amusing Tim.
"No, of course they wouldn't. I don't know what I was thinking." Tim stated making me and Sav fist bump behind our backs that this plan succeeded.Once the coast was clear, we ended up ordering pizza for dinner and sat around the couch in the library across from Rinus, though I did have to keep my cool since Sav ended up sitting in my lap due to how small the couch was.
"You really used to work here?" Anika asked.
"Yes, for years and years."
"I'm more confused than ever!" Sal admitted in slight frustration. "Who took Erik and Kate?"
"I thought we agreed Saganash?" Sav questioned, also seeming confused now.
"Why haven't they contacted us? Don't kidnappers usually want a ransom?" Sal continued to question.
"And what about all that Saganash business?" Tess asked before I jumped in.
"You know something about Saganash."
"Yeah, you got really mad when I thought your name was Saganash." Tess continued.
"Come on, tell us." Daniel told as Sav took a bite from her slice of pizza.
"Why would Kate write down that name? And who leaves a blank notebook behind?" Tess asked before putting the book on the table.
"Let the man answer some of these questions, Jesus." Sav told us as she covered her mouth due to still eating, since we weren't giving him a chance.
Sal looked at the notebook and stood up before picking it up to look at it. He opened up to a random page and held a look like he figured something out. We all got up to watch it and he picked a page and held it over a candle but made sure it didn't catch on fire.
"What are you doing?" Daniel asked.
"Revealing a message. Think of the first national treasure." Sav stated before Sal continued.
"The writer used some kind of invisible ink." Sal told before the paper slightly darkened in one spot making him lift it and smelt it before returning back to his goal. "From the smell, I'd say carboxylate."
"Good choice." Sav told before we could see writing begin to form.
"What's it say?" I asked.
"The fight will rage forever over Josephine's one true love." Tess read out as we were all confused at it. "What's that mean?"
"Who's-- who's Josephine's one true love?" Sal questioned.
"Who's Josephine?" I added.
"Get outta here?!" Sav somewhat shouted making us look at her. "You guys seriously need to learn about your family's history."
"You know who it is?" I asked.
"She's a Hunter that became famous for loving something no man or woman could either have or see for that matter. It's believed to be your ancestor by everyone who hears it, you know true love."
"You believe other wise don't you." Tess stated.
"Duh! I don't think she completely loved her husband, but something he gave to her that represented his love for her." Sav informed us.
"Do we have any clue whose notebook this is?" Daniel asked since it did seem odd for this clue to be in a book where Erik and Kate most likely were held hostage in, before the heat formed initials to form on the bottom of the page.
'J.S.? Who's that?'
As we all were most likely wondering, we heard Rinus hum, making us look towards him.
"Saganash?" I questioned him.
"I'm afraid so." He admitted.
"The question is. Did he forget it, or leave it for us on purpose?" Sav asked making us all worry at what this meant, and I took Sav's hand in mine since she somehow managed to help me feel calmer.
'I really hope he just forgot it.'
