The remaining members in their group gathered on the bank of the sand, plotting out their next move. Finnick and Peeta stood by the tree, while the rest of them sat nearby or crouched around Katniss. All of their eyes were on her as she spoke.
"So besides Brutus and Enobaria, who's left?"
"Maybe Chaff. Just those three." Peeta suggested.
"They know they're outnumbered. I doubt they'll attack again." Finnick pointed out. "We're safe here on the beach."
"So what do we do? We hunt 'em down?" Johanna questioned.
Cass dug the tip of her knife into the sand, shrugging her shoulders. "I say we set a trap. Lure 'em in."
A scream suddenly rang through the air, causing all of their eyes to dart to the jungle. "Katniss, help me!"
Katniss's eyes went round, panic engulfing her. "Prim!" She yelled, bounding from her spot in the sand.
"No. Katniss!" Finnick shouted, bolting after her. "Katniss, wait!"
Cass jumped to her feet, breaking out into a sprint with Johanna, Beetee, and Peeta. She could hear Katniss screaming, her fear overpowering her mind. She knew what it was like to have that happen, so she didn't blame her for thinking that her sister's screams were real.
"Finnick!" Cass called out, slamming her hand into a leaf to move it out of the way as she continued forward, eyes searching for him in the thick greenery.
"Baby?!"
All the air in her lungs left as her dad's voice echoed through the air.
Johanna followed after her, only a step behind. Her brow furrowed together at the sudden fear radiating off of the older girl's shoulders. "Cass, where's—"
"Jo!"
A chill slithered down Johanna's spine, her eyes going round at the voice that had just penetrated her eardrums again after four years. "Kai?" She breathed out, turning in every direction.
Cass hardly knew what was going on or where she was going as she flew past dozens of trees on either side of her. All she knew was that she'd heard her dad's voice. And he'd been crying out to her in fear.
"Cass, help me!"
She whipped to her left, eyes rapidly flickering over every tree for the source of Lily's voice. Her gut was telling her that it wasn't real; that it was all fabricated by the Capitol. But it wasn't so easy to hear the people she loved in pain, impossibly calling out to her.
"Stop. Please stop." Cass ordered, squeezing her eyes shut just as her name ripped through the air, bringing her back to reality.
"PEIA!" He yelped.
