It had only been two months—post victory—but it'd felt like a lifetime since Peia had seen her family. They'd left a few days after the assassination of both President Snow and Coin, which made it a month and a half since they'd all been together. It was definitely a sacrifice, but she wouldn't have had it any other way.
And now, after six long weeks, she was back. Back with her family, back with her people. It'd been even longer since she'd stepped foot in District 4, but she'd lost track of how long it'd truly been since she'd been home. It didn't matter much since they were planning to relocate within the next few weeks. They'd stay by the water and the beach, but they weren't staying in the Victor's Village. Not when that part of their lives was over.
A new world meant a new home— one without painful memories attached.
Peia already had a smile on her face before she even opened the door. As she stepped into the entryway, it was as if they'd been waiting for her. And they likely had, because Sawyer was running over to her and Finnick, embracing both of them the second they were inside.
"I can't believe you're here!" He gushed, pulling away to look at them. "We missed you both so much."
"We missed you, too." She responded, smile only growing.
Finnick peered around Sawyer, eyes straining to see into the kitchen. "Are you guys cooking?"
"Well, actually—"
"Ah, ah, ah!" Kai interjected as they came around the corner. He had a wooden spoon pointed at his father. "We're cooking. He's tasting and sampling."
Sawyer's face dropped as Lily's brow raised. "It's true."
Peia couldn't help but laugh. Oh how she'd missed being with her family. Her gaze shifted behind herself to the living room, falling on Johanna and baby Kai. He was on his tummy, constant cooing and other noises sounding from his throat.
Her eyes lit up as she made her way over to them, settling on her knees next to Johanna. "He's getting so big."
"I know." She agreed, turning to her. "Long time no see."
Peia tilted her head. "It's been six weeks. Get over it."
Johanna grinned, mischief flashing in her gaze. "Missed you, too."
"Aw, Jo." Peia's lips turned downward. "How're you gonna feel when you find out we're staying?"
"You're staying?" She questioned, all forms of humor dropping from her tone.
Peia nodded her head. "Yep. Plutarch's just putting the finishing touches on our homes, but they'll be ready in a few weeks."
"Wow." Johanna breathed out, head shaking. "You really did it."
