Finnick lifted his gaze as the door to their room quietly opened. It was late, but he'd stayed up, waiting. His sea-green eyes flickered with concern as he looked at his wife. Peia's head was down, gaze stuck on the lavish carpet as she made her way to him.

She remained silent as she climbed into the bed, curling up close to him. He was what she needed. She needed to feel comforted, to feel reassured that what had just taken place wasn't a mistake.

"Daisie's dead."

Finnick glanced down at her at the same moment Peia sat up, dark eyes locked onto his. He didn't seem shocked or angry or confused. And that confused her.

"Did you—"

"No." Peia admitted, letting out a breath. "Kai killed her."

There was a pause as Finnick nodded his head, likely processing that bit of information.

"But I was gonna do it. I was gonna kill her, Finn. And I would've if Kai hadn't done it first." She dropped her gaze down to the sheets. "I didn't even know he had the gun."

There was another pause.

"He already knew what I had planned, and he did it so I wouldn't have to." Peia explained, lifting her gaze back up to Finnick. "Please say something. I want to know how you feel about that, because honestly, I don't feel bad. She was the one who told Snow to reap Kai. She's the reason he was put in the Games, Finn. And I can't—" Her voice caught in her throat. "I can't move on or—or try to be happy knowing that she just gets to live. I mean, Rhett didn't. His son is upstairs right now, fighting to survive, and he'll never get to know his dad. He'll never get to know my brother. And Rhett never even got to see Kai. Kai didn't get to see his brother again when they'd been less than twenty feet away from each other. And she made me watch him die."

Finnick brushed a stray curl behind her ear before his palm was cupping her cheek. "I'm not mad, P. I understand why. You did what you thought was best for your family, and I will stand with you. I will stand by your side. Okay?" He paused, head beginning to shake. "She hurt Kai— she hurt you. And now that she's gone, all the pain, all the hurt— it can finally stop. Snow is the last person who scarred us and Katniss is going to kill him." He tilted his head down. "Once he's gone, it's over. Anyone who's ever caused your or me or our family pain will be gone. I told you I would love you until forever fell apart. Our forever is just starting."

Peia brought her hand up, placing it over top of his. "I love you. I love you, Finnick."

Finnick wordlessly pulled her into him, wrapping his arms around her. Night had come and although the darkness was potent, it couldn't get to them. Not anymore. Not when she had him and he had her. Not when her hand was in his.
