An aura of uneasiness settled in the room, only furthering the agitation coursing through Rhett's veins. Sometimes his dad could be infuriating. And that's exactly what he'd been after getting back from District 8 with the rest of Katniss's protection squad.

Lily sighed, eyes only focused on her fiance. He was pacing the length of their small room. Again. It'd been two days since Sawyer had gotten back and since then he'd sat down and had a chat with them, basically telling the two of them that they should get married.

"I'm not—I'm not having doubts. I promise. I just—" Rhett let out an arduous breath, stopping at the wall and pressing his forehead into it. "She's supposed to be here. I can't—I can't even think about what we're about to do, because she won't be there."

Lily's gaze softened as she lifted her hand up, gently rubbing his shoulder. "I know. But we talked about it. We told him we would and we did. We decided this. Together." She paused, keeping her hand on his shoulder as he turned to face her. "Your dad's right. There's never gonna be a perfect time— not when we're on the brink of war. The revolts have only gotten worse and we don't know how long it's gonna be before we can get her back."

Rhett squoze his eyes shut, unable to do anything else. "I know. I just...I already knew Kai wasn't gonna get to be there. And—" His voice fell quiet, low against the muted ambience surrounding them. "We talked about it a few times growing up, mostly because of Peia, but..." He shook his head. "He was supposed to be my best man and she's your maid of honor. It already feels wrong doing it without my little brother, but without Peia? I just—I can't."

Lily closed the distance between them, pressing her forehead to his. She grabbed his hands, gently placing them on his heart. "Kai will be there. In here. And so will Peia. This isn't the real thing." She pointed out, pulling away and moving his hands from his chest down to her bump. "We're gonna be parents in a little over three months. If we don't get married now and Peia gets back, she's gonna call you an idiot for waiting. You know that."

Rhett chuckled, his expression softening momentarily. "We'll celebrate when she gets back?"

"Just like we talked about." Lily reminded him.

"Okay. Okay, I'm sorry, Lil." Rhett murmured, pulling her in to kiss the top of her forehead.

"Don't apologize for wanting your family here. I get it. If it were possible, my dad would be here. But he's not and that's okay." She lifted his hand up to her own heart. "In here, remember?"

Rhett nodded his head, mouth twitching up in a simper. "I guess Finnick'll have to do as my best man."

Lily chuckled. "And I guess Annie'll have to do as my sole bridesmaid."

"Hey, at least you're not getting Finnick. The guy's a total dou—"

"Stop it." Lily reprimanded, brow raising. "He's your brother and you know it." She paused, a humorous look glinting in her eyes. "And soon enough, he'll be your brother in law. He proposed, remember?"
