Kai exhaled, a light aura of alarm settling between him and his older sister. It was just the two of them, swiftly waking down the hallway towards the infirmary. The golden hue covering the walls and floors could finally be seen from where they were, only increasing their speed.
In simple terms, Sawyer was missing. In confusing terms, the damn nurses had lost the stubborn man just minutes after he'd woken up. How that was possible, they couldn't figure out. He'd been in a coma of sorts the past two days, unable to have visitors until he would wake up. And they'd received no word on the matter of if he'd done that or not.
Peia had received a message from Haymitch on her tiny transmitter device just over ten minutes ago, which is why the two siblings were storming the fort— trying to figure out why the hell an entire team of nurses and doctors had misplaced a whole-ass patient.
As they neared their dad's room, their speed decreased, but only slightly. There were a few nurses—fearfully—poking around, but other than them, it was empty.
"I swear to God, if he died—"
"He didn't die." Peia interjected, locking onto her brother's dark eyes.
Kai just let out a sigh as they continued forward. "I got one place in mind."
"Me, too." Peia echoed as they rounded the corner, passing Finnick's room.
The long walk down the corridor became short as both of them pushed through the last set of doors, leading into the intensive care unit. As they entered the enclosed space and the huge glass wall came into view, both Kai and Peia were rolling their eyes.
Because there Sawyer was, sling encasing his left arm, right hand pressed into the glass as he peered down at his grandson. Neither of them said anything as they came up on either side of him, following his gaze.
Baby Malakai lay in his incubator, two tiny patches monitoring his heart rate as his little chest rose and fell. He slept peacefully, wholly unaware of the fact that he was already loved half to death by so many people. Sawyer had risen from the dead to see him.
"What do you think? Mal's a little fighter, huh?" Kai voiced.
Sawyer turned to him, mouth curling up into a smile as he pulled his son into a tight, loving embrace. "I'm so happy to see you." He exclaimed, holding him close with his right arm.
Kai was more than grateful to see him, but he was also downright confused. So was Peia. "So are we. You're missing though. Did ya know that?"
As they separated, Sawyer threw his good hand up. "I had to meet my grandson. I already missed his birth and I'm not letting— shit." His eyes went round, flickering to his nurse as he stepped behind Peia.
