Everyone gathered around Beetee, their eyes on him. He had a plan, formulated to kill the other tributes. Katniss wasn't aware of the real plan, but that was the one he was explaining to her, keeping out the truth that they would be rescued by nightfall. A small package with bread inside had been sent down less than an hour ago, a clandestine note attached inside.

It had said the place and time at which their plan needed to be completed by.

"Where do the Careers feel safest? The jungle?" Beetee asked, eyeing each of them.

"The jungle's a nightmare." Johanna pointed out.

"Probably here on the beach." Peeta offered.

Beetee's brow raised. "Then why aren't they here?"

"Because we are." Johanna said, glancing at Finnick. "We claimed it."

"And if we left, they would come."

"Or stay hidden in the treeline." Finnick voiced.

"Which in just over four hours will be soaked with water from the 10:00 wave." Beetee reminded them before turning to Katniss. "And what happens at midnight?"

"Lightning strikes that tree."

"What are you saying?" Cass asked, the act of fooling Katniss almost as easy as fooling the Capitol.

Beetee turned to her, tilting his head down. "I say we leave the beach at dusk. We head to the lightning tree. That should draw them back to the beach. Prior to midnight, we then run this wire from the tree to the water." He explained, eyes falling down to the large copper coil sitting in his lap. "Anyone in the water or in the damp sand will be electrocuted."

"How do we know the wire's not gonna burn up?" Johanna questioned.

"Because I invented it."

Cass raised her brow, tilting her head at his confidence.

"I assure you, it won't burn up."

"Well," Johanna let out a breath, eyes shifting from Finnick to Cass. "It's better than your idea of luring 'em out."

"And your idea of hunting them down." She shot back.

"Yeah, why not?" Katniss agreed, turning to Beetee. "If it fails, no harm done anyway, right?"

"All right, I say we try it." Peeta echoed, nodding his head.

"So what can we do to help?" Finnick asked.

"Keep me alive for the next six hours. That would be extremely helpful." Beetee responded.

"Done." Cass expressed, pressing off the tree she'd been leaning against. "Let's do it."
