Two days.

She'd only been married a total of forty-eight hours, but it could have easily been a lifetime. She loved Finnick with everything that she was and somehow, that love had been magnified. Getting married hadn't changed anything for them, yet it had changed everything.

Things felt more definitive knowing that she got to be his forever. She felt the hope return to her body, the pile of bricks on her heart crumbling into nothing. Despite it all, things never felt so damn complicated when they were together. And having her hand in his had never felt so right.

Finnick pressed a kiss to her shoulder blade, pulling her from her thoughts. He lifted his head back up to lock onto her eyes, a smile raising his mouth. "What are you thinking about?"

Peia matched his expression, gaze shifting down to her hand as she lifted it. Her eyes ultimately settled on the ring resting on her finger. "Was it painless?"

Finnick resituated himself, lying his head down on the pillow next to her. "Doctors say it was. I never left her side. I was there when it happened."

"I wish I would've gotten to say goodbye." Peia voiced as he laced his hand through hers. "She deserved to see us. We deserved to have her there. But I'm glad she's not suffering anymore. And I'm glad you were here."

"She loved you, P. And she may not have been there, but she was one of our biggest fans— always supporting us and treating us like her own. She was family." Finnick expressed, bringing her knuckles up and pressing a kiss to them.

Peia smiled, turning to face him. "I sometimes wonder what would've happened if you'd never talked to her before the party."

Finnick chuckled, his impish dimple appearing in his cheek. "Well, I was already in love with you. And it's not like I listened to her advice anyway."

She only rolled her eyes.

"Besides, great romantic gestures always work. I mean, I got the girl, didn't I?"

Peia raised her brow, attempting to control the laugh trying to escape. "Barely. I thought you were talking about another girl, remember? It kind of ruined the moment for me."

"Oh, did it?" Finnick questioned, tilting his head at her. "Did it?" He echoed, suddenly burying his nose in her neck.

She let out a short scream, her giggles sounding through the air. "No! Stop! Stop it—"

Her laughs died down at the sound of a beeping noise going off. Peia made sure the sheets were pulled up around her chest as Finnick reached over, grabbing the small device. His eyes scanned the screen, narrowing at the words.

"What is it?"

"Coin's called a meeting. It's urgent." Finnick responded, setting it back down on the table and meeting her gaze.
