Hundreds, maybe thousands, of pods littered the streets of the Capitol. Every few steps, a new threat was likely to emerge, so going above ground wasn't an option. They had seventy-five blocks to go until they came even close to their beloved president's home, which meant they really only had one choice.

They had to go underground.

"My brother knows these tunnels really well." Castor voiced, using the last few prongs of the ladder to step down onto the concrete below. "He worked sanitation down here. Right after they made him an avox."

"I don't like this. I got a bad feeling." Sawyer admitted, voice only audible to Finnick.

He glanced at him with a sigh. "Better down here than up there with all those pods."

Sawyer shook his head, gaze flitting to Peia and Peeta just a few feet in front of them. "I don't know. Something feels off."

"Everything feels off. We're in the Capitol, remember?"

Before Sawyer was given a chance to respond, the sound of a train echoed loudly through the tunnel. Everyone darted behind the nearest wall just as the transport sped by, whipping past them.

Katniss pressed off of the orange divider, head shaking. "We're too exposed here."

Pollux met her gaze, eyes flashing with hesitancy. There was a momentary lapse before he raised his hand up, signaling to the group. They all followed closely behind him, sprinting out across the tracks and to the other side. He led them through another door, the area inside containing a hatch that led down to the sewers.

If they wanted total privacy, they were getting it.

Sawyer made his way to the front of the group as they continued forward, down the ladder and through various winding corridors. He stayed close to Katniss, rifle tightly gripped in his hands. Even if they were safe from cameras, that didn't mean that they were safe down there. Anything could be lurking in the shadows, just out of view. One failure of vigilance and they were all dead.

The water levels began to die down as they entered a different part of the sewers. His clothes were wet, soaked with the frigid liquid, which only heightened his apprehension. Sawyer could feel the doubt in the back of his throat. Something wasn't right, he just didn't know what wasn't.

"All right, everybody," Jackson boomed, effortlessly gaining their attention. "We're gonna stop here for a bit and get some rest, yeah?" She paused. "I'll take first watch."

With that, everyone settled down, breaths coming more easily as they relaxed. Peia sat down next to Finnick, back pressing against the steel wall behind her. She craned her neck back, letting out an arduous breath.

"What're you thinking about?" Finnick asked as she lowered her head back down.

"Kai." She confessed, shaking her head at the ground. "I just— I feel like I'm always hurting the people I love. Consistently. I mean, he thinks we're dead." She lifted her gaze to his, eyes wide. "He thinks we're dead, Finn."
