Johanna had gotten up a little while ago, quietly leaving while Kai had still been asleep. Since then, he'd sat up, letting out a breath in her bed. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his palms, legs hanging off the side as he tried to eradicate any and all forms of drowsiness from his system.
Eventually, he got up. He didn't know what was in the cards for today, since they were no longer fighting a war, but he knew Coin wanted to meet with all of them. She had yet to do that, so it was probable it would be happening within the next few days.
As he opened the door and carefully stepped out into the hallway, Haymitch happened to round the corner. The man's eyes lit up, almost humorously sparkling as they flickered down to the cabin number.
Kai glanced back at the door, lips parting slightly. "Yeah, I got nothin'." He admitted, turning back to him.
Haymitch just grinned. "Seems you got more than nothing. I already knew though. Don't sweat it."
With two pats on the shoulder, he was gone. Kai whirled around, head shaking as he watched him stroll down the hallway. He could've stood there and dwelled on it, but it was Haymitch.
Kai shook the odd interaction off, making his way to the elevator. He stepped inside, pressing the ground floor button. While they waited to be moved out, he might as well go and see Finnick, Lily, or his dad. Lily would be discharged in the next day or two, but Malakai was still in intensive care. Hopefully that'd be changing soon, but for now, he had a few options of who to visit.
The elevator doors slid open a moment later, allowing Kai to step through them. He made his way through District 13, shortly reaching the infirmary. He passed the first few rooms, none of which belonged to any of his family members.
For no particular reason, he decided on Finnick's room. He started towards the door, but had only made it halfway there when his name was being called.
"Kai! Kai!" Sawyer shouted.
Kai's brow shot together as he turned, eyes shifting to the open door diagonally across from the one he'd been about to enter through. "Yes?" He responded, gaze narrowing as he passed through his dad's room instead.
"Can you tell Peia I want my socks? The fuzzy ones with the gray stripe. She'll know what I'm talking about."
Kai had to laugh, dark eyes rolling into the back of his head. "Yeah. Sure."
"Okay. That's all."
Kai shook his head, gaze lingering on his dad as he began to fidget with the controller attached to his bed. On cue, his back began to lower, then it rose, then lowered again. If anything, Sawyer was bored.
Finnick's room had been empty when he'd passed it, so that meant Peia could've been in two possible places— Lily's room or the intensive care unit. Kai started back down the hallway, shortly reaching the swinging doors that separated the infirmary from where Malakai was. He figured she would be there of all places.
