Sawyer's eyes darted around the cargo bay, ultimately falling on the Mockingjay. She walked with Boggs, her personal guard and second in command over District 13. He made his way over to the pair, rifle held between his fingertips.
Katniss turned to him, eyes swiftly giving him a once over. They'd never met, but they knew of each other. His daughter had saved her life, after all.
"Oh, Katniss." Boggs began, gesturing to him. "This is Sawyer. He'll be one of your personal guards, part of the team."
A smile lifted his mouth as he locked onto her eyes. "Nice to finally meet you. I'm—"
"Cass's dad. I know." Katniss interjected.
Something flickered in his gaze, his smile faltering. "Then you know I'll do everything in my power to keep you safe. My daughter believed in you; so do I."
At that, Katniss tilted her head down. "Thank you."
The three of them continued forward, nearing the jet. Effie stood at the cargo ramp, straightening out Gale's uniform. He, too, held a gun in his hands— all of them there with only one goal in mind. Protect the Mockingjay. At any cost.
Effie turned to them as they reached her. "Doesn't your comrade look handsome?" She asked, eyes solely focused on Katniss.
There was a pause.
Sawyer's brow knit together as his gaze shifted from Effie to Katniss and back to Effie. "Look, I hate to interrupt, but, uh, I don't think she really gives a shit." He turned back to Katniss, nodding at the ramp. "You ready?"
Katniss didn't say anything as she followed him and Boggs, stepping past Gale and Effie. She didn't know what she'd been expecting for Cass's family, but what she did know was that she was Sawyer's daughter all right. The way they carried themselves, the blunt truth of their words— there was no doubt in her mind they weren't related.
Plutarch stood at the top of the ramp, ready to greet the three of them. "Quick introductions, Katniss. I see you've already met Sawyer." He sent him a nod before turning to the rest of the team, attention focused on a blonde woman. "These people have come a long way to support the cause. This is Cressida. In my opinion, one of the best up-and-coming directors in the Capitol."
"Until I up and left." She mused, turning to Katniss. "Hey."
"Hey."
"Let's see what you can do. All right. Be careful." Plutarch concluded, exiting back down the ramp.
Cressida took charge, lifting her hand up to the remaining men behind her. "This is my assistant, Messalla."
"It's an honor to meet you." He acknowledged.
