Kai quietly closed the door to Lily's hospital room, beginning to make his way back upstairs. He had been with her since this afternoon, unable to leave her side after explaining what had happened. After telling her that the rest of her family was dead.

They'd visited baby Malakai, watching through the glass as his little chest rose and fell. He was gaining more strength as time passed, but he wasn't even twenty-four hours old yet. He needed the extra care and that meant Lily couldn't hold him in her arms. So she watched him, for hours at a time.

He was her light in the midst of darkness.

Kai reached the door to his cabin, half expecting Johanna to be inside. Without his dad, it hadn't made a difference which one they slept in. His eyes scanned the empty room, brow furrowing together as he shut the door.

He walked past the few cabins that separated his from hers, softly knocking on the metal. There was no response, only furthering his confusion. He hesitantly opened the door, but was met with the same image he'd seen in his own room— vacancy.

Kai's gaze shifted down to the desk, eyes landing on a small slip of paper. He took the remaining steps to the gray slab, picking the note up.

If you see this, we're in 1504.

Either side of his mouth quirked up as the note was placed back where he'd found it. The fact that she cared enough to tell him where they were made him feel appreciated. He continued down the hallway, shortly reaching the cabin. As he silently opened the door, though, he could already hear them.

"You don't think so?" Johanna tested, someone subsequently scoffing.

"No. No, I know so. Just you wait. When Kai gets here—"

"You're gonna do what?" Kai interrupted, head tilting at Thresh as he turned to him.

"Gonna beat you in this bet." Thresh stated, arms folding across his chest.

Before he was given a chance to complacently reply, Annie stepped forward. "How is she?"

Kai nodded his head. "Devastated. She's resting now though. We're gonna get through it. Together." There was a slight pause. "Enough of this though." Kai remarked, smirk sliding back onto his face. "What exactly are you gonna be beating me at?"

"Well, we all got to talking and Johanna seems to think I can do more pushups than you. But Annie disagrees." Thresh admitted.

Kai's brow raised as he turned to Johanna. "Really, Jo? I would think you, of all people, would know just how strong I am."

Johanna raised her chin up. "Oh, I do. I also know how humble you are."

Kai nodded his head, a small laugh following. "Wow. This is—This is—"
